One new item carries to Irenicus’ Dungeon

Consider adding one more, non-overpowered item that carries over to Irenicus’ Dungeon such as something for Jaheira; this would be a cool surprise.

But, do keep BG2 challenging from the start as this keeps player more engrossed by having to think strategically, think longer than just a few minutes, and re-try.

Personally, I'd like the djinni in the demiplane of air to be holding "whatever weapon you were wielding" at the end of BG1. The Sword of Chaos is nice for two-handed warriors, but it bears no plot purpose, and a single-weapon fighter is going to find it useless.

It would also be nice to actually keep Varscona, after everything you went through to get it. It's no more powerful than the Sword of Chaos, but if you were wielding it at the end of BG1, why would the Djinni have some other completely different sword?

A million times yes to this. It would be much better for the Djinn to have something you once wielded, rather than "here is a 2 handed sword, you use a spear? tough"

Another suggestion - if you are carrying some more powerful BG1 items (like Ring of Wizardry, Boots of Stealth), have Mar'Var and crew use them against you.

While it would be nice to start BG2 with some nicer loot, I kinda like the thought of having to start with crappy equipment, plus one or two +1 things and then going through the trouble of getting nicer things. Similarly, I do see the point in getting "useless" powerful items which you can then sell to purchase some of the things you'll actually need.

Well BG2 EE is far yet, but when it's come here is my point:

There is a mod that carry a lot of bg1 itens to bg2, it's really cool to get the itens back but that strongly disrupt the game balance on the begin of the game, so with base in that idea make a quest to get the itens instead of just let them to be get on the begin. Something as a client list note found on the library in irenicus dungeon where you can find each person that brought you itens and for each client a quest or something is needed.

the sword of chaos, i thought the description said that was the sword that sarevok used against you and most of its power died when sarevok died, i think that is the plot behind the sword of chaos, and you supposedly picked it up after the fight with sarevok, so i think that is the reasoning behind the sword of chaos and what the djinni actually meant

In the promenade of Waukeen there's this merchant who was also somewhere in Baldur's gate. Let's say Irenicus has captured you and sold all of your gear to him. I want that merchant to be selling all the gear you had at the end of Baldur's gate 1. That way you're not overpowered at the beginning of SoA but you can eventually get all of your old stuff back. Problem solved.

actually did you know that you can actually keep your gear from bg 1 in bg 2? just before the beginning sequence starts where your character makes the sound that they died (when the screen is still black) you will actually be holding every single item you had in the first game on you, so you can just take it all off and put 'er on the ground, and when the sequence is over, boom all yer items will be on the ground waiting for you, the only thing is cursed items you wont be able to take off but everything else you can, it also works for multiplayer as well, so if you want your bg 1 items that badly, you can just do it that way

Yeah but that's not very cool. It's more like a glitch than anything else to me. It's not like Irenicus would let you sit on all that pile of gear without taking it away. I want a legit way to get my gear back.

Also as others have pointed out, having all of your BG1 gear at the start of SoA makes the game far too easy at the beginning.

the only 2 items in bg ii that you cant get from bg 1 are the cloak of balduran and claw of kazgaroth, the cloak of balduran would be a hyper over powered item, so thats probally why its not in bg II and even the claw of kazgaroth would still be pretty powerful, the only other item im thinking of that you cant get in the 2nd game is the long bow of marksmanship, but gesen bow/ heartseeker/ strong arm are all better, so its not like you dont get them back eventually, plus you get to keep your golden pantaloons :)

There's quite a few more than that. Just on top of my head: the free action two handed sword +2, greywolf's sword, arcane ring and that's all I can think of right now. But you're right there would be a lot of duplicates if you would bring your items over but I don't think it matters. If you've got found something better and don't want your items back from the merchant you just don't buy them. But if you want your claw of Kazgaroth or cloak of balduran then you gotta pay 30000$ a piece so it won't be that easy.

@AzL0n, @sarevok57, Dudley published a table of the possible items that can carry over with you from BG1 to BG2:
