Use BG2 Sprites in BG1?

ArkinArkin Member Posts: 32
I used to play an elf fighter, and it always bugged me that his sprite in BG1 looked so...un-elf-like...compared to his later BG2 incarnation. I personally find the BG2 sprites better on every level, and hope that you all consider using them!

Actually, most people around here would tell you that they prefer the BG1 sprites, lol.

But yes, BGEE will use the BG2 engine, so it'll have the BG2 sprites too.

The only part I really didn't like about the Baldur's Gate 2 design, character model and such were in fact the shields. I simply loved the Large Shield look on Baldur's Gate 1, as it made me look like a Roman Centurion. Overall, I liked BG2's Sprites though...

@Cheesebelly - probably because you never saw them next to each other with Infinity Animations, otherwise you'd hate them ;-) Also, doesn't mirroring bother you?

@AndreaColombo : you mean, the process when you turn right your weapon is in your right hand while when you turn left, it's in your left hand? (or maybe it's the other way around, I am not sure) That is kind of painful I admit XD

@Cheesebelly - exactly. That's the major step back BG2 sprites took compared to BG1 sprites, imho. That being said, BG1 sprites are also bigger and more imposing, and I find them overall better looking and designed.

It is kinda mind blowing when you realise that BG2 animations actually use half of the animations that the BG1 ones did.

But they do have dual wielding, which looks like you're peeling onions like a maniac :P

Well, sword movement in BG2 looks more natural, while in BG1 looks more like a simple swing using just your fist. In BG2 looks like someone sneezing, which is better in my opinion :P

Well, the problem is the BG1 animations look like you just went out of the gym and you're feeling like arnold, especially human male :P , while the BG2 animations imo did terribly on armors, especially plate armor, it looks totally weird especially on humans ( fighters ).
