Girdle of Gender

Shouldn't this have something more to it? I always thought that the 'girdle' fetish was because the ogre was trying to reverse the girdle he was wearing but didn't know which girdle to steal. I mean, couldn't this affect NPC reactions and whatnot?

    And of course

The fabolous ToB ending, which says that Elminster turns him permanently into a woman and "she" becomes a bartender in a tavern in waterdeep. Edwina is a bitter bitter woman :D

Fun fact; Dragon Age has a tavern with a bartender called Edwina and she is a bitter, bitter woman.

Actually, I was aware of all of these spoilers.

I'm confused.... So if you knew that the chain of events brings closure to the "girdle of gender" sidequest (in more than one ways actually) what is the point of original post..?

That the girdle has no point past the 1st playthrough in BG1 I guess.

The girdle of gender has nothing to do with these previously mentioned spoilers so there is no closure to speak of. Essentially you have this oddball of an item that plays no significant role for anything apart from selling for about 100gp. I really feel that cursed items do not play a large enough role in the series. It may not be the easiest cursed item to base a quest around but the girdle would be quite unique.

If you install BG1NPC mod some members of your party will react if you put the girdle on them (Shar-Teel comes to mind).

Heh, I remember trying that belt on... I didn't notice anything amiss until few hours later, when trying on a new armor. (I'm shortsighted, okay? :P ) Years later, in BG2 I was reminded of this when Edwin had his excelent adventure, and thought that the devs really should have included a new portrait for him/her, to better indicate his ...uh... condition. Then I made one myself. Then I wondered, hey what would the other guys look like if...? And this happened:

It'd be uber awesome if BG:EE included alternate portraits for all joinable NPCs, just in case they fancied the unidentified belt... but yeah, I know it's not very feasible. But hey, I hear making the mods will be easier now - maybe there's a modder out there who knows how to draw? :)

Ok, so BG2EE must include a possibility to have a romance with Edwina.

It would seem really out of character for Edwina to even consider a romance with the PC, let alone anyone.
