If Boo is wearing the helmet, even Minsc would recognize the change and be furious at whoever replaced or cursed his favorite miniature giant space hamster.
If Minsc is wearing the helmet, Boo will be telling him to do the right thing...
...unless, of course, Minsc is insane and hears what he wants from Boo in which case Boo might go from advising righteous butt-kickings while Minsc is CG to advising whatever a LE space hamster would suggest (probably looking out for number 1 above all else?).
Not sure how that would shake out but it would be fun to DM.
Having a miniature giant space hamster tell you what to do.
Being insane.
Somehow, I don't think these two are mutually exclusive.

They aren't, but the impact of the HOOA is radically different if Boo is actually telling him what to do or if Minsc project his own thoughts onto Boo.

Fair enough. Although to be honest, I am not sure how you would be able to tell the difference in either scenario.
But I do whole heartedly agree that DMing such a scenario would be quite fun.

As I said above, if Boo has an independent good aligned mind and the helmet is on Boo, then a CG Minsc will likely think someone has either replaced his friend or cursed him which won't lead to Minsc doing bad things but will lead to him being angry for revenge. If the helmet is on Minsc, then you will be trying to control Minsc while Boo whispers 'good' counsel into his ear which could be problematic when you try to get him to defy Boo.
If Boo is just a reflection of Minsc it is easier. Boo with the helmet on just becomes a bad tempered rodent and CG Minsc interprets his bad nature as a sign to go kick evil's bottom. Minsc with the helmet becomes LE and interprets Boo as endorsing whatever LE notions he comes up with.
I think it would role play pretty differently depending on whether Boo is an independent agent or just a mirror for Minsc's insanity.
LOL. What I was trying to say about not being able to tell the difference, since Mincs is the only one that 'Hears' Boo's voice, is he going to be able to tell if it is the voices in his head or Boo? If Boo all of the sudden became evil, considering that Boo is probably more intelligent than Minsc and wouldn't go around just spewing Hate and evil, would Minsc be able to tell that something was wrong with his little buddy? if Minsc was the one changed, since Boo can't tell anyone about it, would Minsc merely think that Boo went crazy and was being contrary?
In short, no matter how you slice it, only Boo and Minsc would ever know. And given Minsc's mental facilties, it is unlikely that anyone would ever find out, least of all Minsc.
