Items with RED BOX -- non useable?

I am level 1 Paladin - Cavalier - I want to use 2 h weapons.. 2h swords to be exact.

Is the red square a definite class restriction or possible level restriction. or both?

WHen can a paladin cavalier use standard 2h sword?

    A paladin should be able to use any 2H sword, unless the weapon is restricted to a certain alignment (i.e. only usable by good, like Drizzt's scimitar) or has a minimum strength requirement and your charname is too weak. Which is unlikely with a fighter class. The only 2H sword a cavalier can't use is Dorn's Rancor +1 since it is restricted to Dorn. But other than that, you should be able to use any 2H sword in the game.

    Red always means not usable due to not fulfilling requirements (class, strength, alignment). It's not linked to the level.
