Question concerning the Flail of Age +5

So it is right that upgrading the flail from +4 to +5 give to it the free action status.
I guess this can be a problem if you want to haste your character.
But concerning the boots of speed or items that can be applied after you hold the flail in your hand : do they prevent the character to be hasted or gain the advantage of more APR ?
If so, I guess I'll have to rely on Mace of the stars +5 or Hammer of Runes +5 (or perhaps even Flail of the Ages +4).
Thanks for your answers.

Personally I just cheat by editing the base movement speed of the character in question so that he keeps up with the rest of the party (because it's very annoying to play if one character runs much more slowly than the rest of the party).
Since my character is dual class berserker / cleric at level 13, I won't have access to warrior HLA.
Therefore I'll switch for other weapon if I dual wield.
Step 1: unequip FoA+5
Step 2: cast Improved Haste
Step 3: equip FoA+5
Step 4: ???
Step 5: NEW LORD OF MURDER
On a more serious note yes, it prevents haste from affecting you but ONLY if it's equipped when haste is cast. It does NOT remove existing haste effects (same as other items that make you immune to something, they do not remove existing conditions).
So If i only switch to another weapon (ie not unequiping from quick weapon slot) before buffing, this should be ok since the game considers it's not in his hands.
