So. . . Cloakwood Mines and Davaeorn?

Okay, I march into the mines, slaughtering the gaurds in the courtyard like they are a group of peasants armed with pitchforks. I effortlessly wade through the mines and take out every single enemy with no effort. . . until:

DAVAEORN!!! I lost once against him, despite the fact I was at level 8, with Dorn, Jaheira, Imoen, Edwin, and Neera. Still though, on my second fight, I almost lost AGAIN at level 8, due to the fact that he kept flinging Fire balls at me.

Oh well, I creamed him and now I have a new Robe of the Evil Archmage to wear.

So . . . tactics against Davaeorn?

Arrows of dispel or spell thrust or some other protection stripping spell. Then it is just smash the puny mage. Of course make sure to disarm all the traps in the hall leading up to him. Or just buff up one person with spell immunity and have him run at Davaeorn until he exhausts his repertoire of spells. Or run in your thief with the venomous dagger and go for a nice big backstab.

Silence and/or Glitterdust make that battle pretty easy. Not sure what D's saves are, but I've hit him with both on a single casting.

Sneak a rogue ahead so you can see him, and the rogue can "spot" for a mage to throw a dispel magic at him. Like an Observer calling in artillery fire. Artillery fire that dispels magic. =3

Yeslick and Coran are his antidotes. Yeslick can shoot a powerful dispel magic as a special ability. Once his defenses are down, Coran can turn him into a pinchuson with arrows.

Gulping fire resistance/magic shielding protection potions, using fire resistance scrolls/spells are good ideas too.

@lunar You can also backstab him. There's a Dagger of Poison that is good against mages of all stripes. And anyone that can sneak in and whack him, backstab multiplier or no, can hurt him pretty good since mages have little HP. This guy teleports around so a crippling alpha strike shortens the battle considerably.

At level 8: Minor Globe of Invulnerability and Polymorph Self (Mustard Jelly); you can fight in the elven style with Imoen and arrows of biting (I had an archer that pretty much took him out in a couple hits and I was much lower level). If you had a cleric or the level 5 mage spell you could send a skeleton warrior over to soak up all of the magic.

Dude, how can you lost to Davaeor with 6 characters at lvl 8? the only way to lose to him at this level is if you start to attack yourself with your party in the battle!

I just go and beat him dead. Any trouble for me in that area comes from the annoying traps, not the dude himself.

Imoen was meant to disarm the traps and got hit with a skull trap. lol.
