BG2: Preparing For the Fighter Stronghold Invasion

GandalfPortraitGuyGandalfPortraitGuy Member Posts: 206
What's the best way to prepare for the Fighter Stronghold invasion? I currently have 40,000 gold pieces, and little pittances like 500 gold isn't that much for me. However, I want to hang on to the stronghold, and I have just allowed my maid to marry Jessup, is it a good idea to stay at the keep and just rest? I realize some people might find it cheesy, but I think a lawful good character who has concern for his lands wouldn't go off adventuring when his people are in danger.

    At event#8, Nalia's former fiance would invade the stronghold. It takes forever in game time to trigger that event (somewhere like 8-10 weeks, and you have to do one event each/every other week.)

    @bbear - Ooooh!

    I guess I'd already stormed Saradush by that point.

    does this ever happen. this was the first thing i did in my bg2 playthrough and i kept checking but it was never invaded before i beat the game so i thought it wouldn't happen

    It happens, but you need to spend weeks of time before it happens. It is not that much of a difficult battle, at that point of the game, you can curb-stomp the enemy army easily. Now with some mods, the battle may become challenging.

    You can set traps with a thief character, around the keep and especially the bridge. Other than that, there is little you can do to prepare.

    I almost never have Nalia in my party, so I only have to defend the stronghold from the elder Roenal douche bag. And since I almost always play as fighter-mage I usually just stroll out and instakill him with the Finger of Death - it's hilarious, because of how that pompous fool confidently comes to storm the keep and then dies pathetically.

    With my 19 strength, -7 AC, haste boot wearing fighter dwarf, I killed him in less than two minutes.
