So, when it comes to CRPGs, I prefer to play a class that can do more than one thing well. If I play a straight melee character, I get bored pretty quickly. The same for Mages, and Thieves as well. For the most part, I really like Dual classing, and to some extent, multiclassing, but it feels very overpowered.

I'm sure most of us would agree that some combinations of classes are a bit...too strong? (Kensai/Mage ~ 'Zerker/Cleric anyone?) So, I'm trying to try something a bit different, and that's to roll myself as a PC Bard.

Yes, a bard.

The problem with me, however, (and it is with me...I think) is that I'm a bit of a power-gamer. I can't really enjoy any of the bard's songs, (the most important aspect in my opinion), without just being a glorified sing-bot.

Is that a term? Is is now.

So, my question to anyone, and everyone out there, is this- Are there any mods, or really good Infinity Engine wizards, that can adjust the bards to be able to sing AND attack at the same time? Or at least fling a spell?

As far as I know, it's a hard-coded innate ability, under the .SPL571A or some such file name. I am too stupid to figure it out myself, and have had no luck with other Bardic Mods. (Song of Silence, RR)

I have scoured google, and searched many mod sites, G3/PBG/PPG/CoM...And no-one has such a tweak that I can find. Most searches actually linked me to a similar question in THIS forum! If anyone can help me out on this, it would really increase my appreciation for bards. And I might actually get to play BG:2!

Yes, I re-roll before I get past level 6/Flooding Nashkel. Don't judge me. =P

    Try the Blade Bard kit. Either attacks with offensive spin or defends and casts with defensive spin. And can pickpocket and sing and stuff...

    And I wouldn't judge you. I also have "restartititis" illness.

    I have tried the blade a bit, but it kinda feels like a pseudo-fighter with worse THAC0 and HP progression. Not that I would mind that, of course, but I still couldn't sing whilst fighting. And if I recall, it is just the "Luck" song the Blade gets? Kinda like the Skald song best, and if I could just get him to sing while bashing heads...

    Almost thought of calling it Alts-heimer's last night, but didn't want to offend anyone. =P

    The Blade is a fascinating character to play. I wouldn't underestimate offensive or defensive spin especially at higher levels. With good Dexterity his armor class is not too shabby, and you can get the Shield Amulet (I think at the carnival). Of course, through Dorn's quest you can eventually get the Elven Chain Mail before entering Baldur's Gate and your Blade becomes a tank. Then there is arcane magic. Your blade can use wands and scrolls and develop arcane spells. Since he levels faster than a mage, some of those spells start to become available pretty early. Pretty versatile. Something like a Fighter/mage but with a little more challenge and a few explosive combat twists. I think great fun.
