splitting stacks of items

in BGEE on iMac, how do I split a stack of multiple items in my inventory?

    Normally you pick up and drop the item quickly (basically a doubleclick).
    I would be surprised if this is not the case on iMac.

    Thank you. That works as long as i am brisk with the second click, which I apparently was not with my earlier testing.
