Familiars in BG2 EE

Does anyone know if familiars will be returned to their 'original strength' (i.e., 24 h.p., better abilities) in BG2 EE?

(I'm not entirely sure why they were weakened for BG1 EE in the first place; I assume that it was because they were perceived as being 'too powerful' or something.)

I hope they are; their original stats come from Shadows of Amn, after all. And yes, they were nerfed because low level mages were using them, quite effectively, as tanks.

Yes, they will return to their original strengths for BG2:EE.

As for why they were nerfed for the first game, @Malicron has it right.

The imp was especially "gimped" with a 21 THACO (the others have 19). I assume it was to compensate for the bonuses from its Polymorph Self spell ability (which was also nerfed for BGEE). Still, it's a powerful familiar that can make a big difference during lower levels if you use good judgment.

Sorry for necromancing this thread, but does anyone know if the familiars will auto-upgrade, or if you will have to get rid of it to get a new, improved one? What was the case in ToB by the way, when familiars got an upgrade?
