Does a sling use STR or DEX to determine hit and damage?

Subject asks it all ;)

    Dex for to-hit; Str for damage.

    Yeah slings are amazing now. Gulp a potion of cloud giant str and each sling shot will do 15+ damage. In BG2, this was the best and unique ability of sling of seeking.

    Huh. I did not actually realize that slings used Strength for damage now. Time to swap some items around...

    Slings and throwing weapons (with the exception of darts) all use Strength to apply a bonus to damage. So that means Slings, Throwing Daggers, and Throwing Axes.

    Time to roll your mages and sorcerers with some strength, too. =)

    They'll need it to carry those throwing daggers LOL

    And yet darts STILL don't have their proper str bonus to damage yet. Or composite bows.

    Thanks, this is great news, only now if Viconia's STR wasn't 9 ...

    Years ago, when I DM d pnp games, for missile weapons I would add either the DEX or STR bonus whichever was larger. STR obviously for the power behind the missile, but DEX because it seemed
    it would give greater accuracy to hit in more critical areas.

    I wish there were some magical throwing daggers in BGEE.

    However, my Fighter/Thief hits for about 8-11 with a simple throwing dagger on lvl 1. Killing Gibberlings and Xvarts in one hit.

    @Southpaw

    If you aren't killing gibberlings and xvarts in one hit, adventuring may not be your thing. ;)

    @PugPug - lol :D

    True...they would fall in one hit anyway. But still, 8-11 is a lot on lvl 1.
