Are you rolling these up in the multiplayer section? Looks like it may be fun. Although you say the Avenger sucks, he's your only source of divine magic so far. You may need him.

Looks like fun. I'm playing a game right now that's similar in that that party has no wizards or sorcerers either, i.e., no arcane magic.

The Druid in my game is a pure class druid, and in a party like this I know what you mean. At low level he is mostly going to heal and hurl sling bullets. But focus on your Avenger's spellcasting, which is actually impressive:

Chromatic Orb - Blinds for one round at level 1, which neutralizes enemies when you keep far enough away from them (and thereby turning them into a pin cushion for your archers); 2nd orbs interrupt (?) enemy spellcasters with pain; 3rd level orb is meh with fire damage; 4th level orb Blinds for 10 rounds; 5th level orb Stuns
Charm Person or Mammal - Charm enemies and make them attack their own!
Call Lightning - fry them with lightning; this spell is good to finish off weakened opponents
Dispel Magic - remove enemy buffs
Web - can be very powerful when cast from afar and enemies are also neutralized with other spells; and/or with Free Action for a character (here via Spider's Bane)
Miscast Magic - hamper enemy spellcasters with 80% chance of spell failure
Rigid Thinking - takes an enemy out by having him or her wander around confused
Summon Insects - one of the best spells there is to interrupt enemy spellcasters
Lightning Bolt - watch the riccochets, but this is a great finishing-off spell for weakened enemies especially on open terrain
Flamestrike - actually it's more economical to use a Wand of Heavens than waste a slot for this spell, but it is powerful
Insect Plague - a better version of Summon Insects
Chaos - this spell is fantastic by debilitating entire mobs
Chain Lightning - yet another electrical spell that can finish off weakened enemies

Since you said the Avenger druid sucks here is a little link to my other discussion on the class with some very intelligent people:
    http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/19087/the-avenger-druid#latest

And I think your setup looks good but I have a personal favorite that I am willing to share that at least works very well in bgee though I can't say if it works that well in bg2-tob.

    1. Avenger Druid:
(maybe this should not be the Pc since you are fragile and will be right up in the face with your opponents):
I go for the avenger druid and get spells/shapeshifts like sword spider, improved invisibility and web.

    2. Spider Bane user:
Would like to say that Dorn is perfect for this position since his damage output and aura of despair together with poison weapon.

    3. Sorcerer:
Could be Baeloth if you want an entertaining npc.
Focus on damage spells but haste, spider spawn and some kind of aoe damage(that does not stay on the battlefield like some gas) spells is a must.

    4. Thief class:
(preferably assassin for poison but focus will not be backstabbing)
Go for ranged weapons, find traps and open locks. Will just be dealing ranged damage and doing traps and locks jobs. Could also be pure thief for more thieving points early but assassin would be best in the long run.

    5. Archer:
Big focus on ranged damage and stealth. Usually have my thief go for the scouting job but this could be better, correct me if I am wrong.

    6. Some Mr./Ms. surprise ranged class:
(could be fighter(with ranged weapon), Mage/ another sorcerer/ or another Archer/ Or your prefered scouting class). As said should be ranged and your focus should be stealth if you do not already have a better stealth-scout since you will only need one.

    Bonus cookie:
Add the paws of the cheetah on the scout for quicker play.
Put poison/biting arrows on ranged if one gets loose to slow them down so they do not escape the web(muahahaha) preferably on assasin together with poison weapon they will not be able to move.

    Tactics will be:

Scout for enemies and identify what you will be facing, let the sorcerer spawn spiders(up to five if you must) and Buff up all with haste and any other buff and have your druid cast improved invisibility on himself/herself.
Preferably cast two web spells on enemies for an added layer of security.
Get your sorcerer to cast in a few aoe spells like skull trap or fireball depending on how spread out the enemies are.
Let your Avenger go in with sword spider together with the sorcerers spiders and Dorn(spider bane user), let Dorn cast aura of despair for some nice bonuses against enemies and poison weapon same for the assassin if you have one and start hacking.
Let all your ranged including the scout start damaging the webbed enemies and if someone gets loose focus on that one.
Would say this tactic is fail-proof if the enemies does not have free action and in can feel a bit cheesy in bgee since it's so damn effective(if you do not face spiders that is).

    Thoughts:
Really great but the biggest weakness is that the Avenger gets his/her sword spider so damn late. Tip would be to start the game by soloing until you get sword spider form and then add the other characters.
Could be considered cheating but there it is.

Damn this was a long post and hope it helps!

if he sucks why would you pick him? i don't get it
get lathander cleric(i think the best pure cleric but not better than avenger) for boon of lathander and some buffs heal if you don't like druid

I think the priest of helm is much better, mainly because of all the buffs plus the sword spell and they are kickass(+4 sword at level one!?).

    sword = no spells
    why would you cast this?
boon of lathander gives you +1apr bringing you closer to fighter

I reckon early on in BG1 the sword is quite useful, mainly because you have no spells to cast. But it quickly becomes worse, while Boon of Lathander quickly becomes better.
