Death without reason

Just loaded my savegame from before I entered the maze to go kill Sarevok to see how tough certain NPCs are, when I discovered this:

current behavior: I go into Ducal Palace attacking Belt. Charname does not take any damage, yet dies.

Expected behavior: Belt dies, Charname stays alive.

Latest Version under Windows, repeatedly loaded savegame and tried this. no change however. charname keeps dying.

    For story reasons, attacking Belt is a game-ending condition. This is intentional.

    i know he is essential earlier on, but figured once I'm off to kill Sarevok it wouldnt matter since Belt has nothing more to do. thanks for the info though:)

    Well, he does take you through the tutorial in BG2. :P But yeah, I see what you mean.

    If you want to take him on, extract this file into your override folder. It will disable the auto-kill when you attack Belt.
