Dual class hit points

in New Players (NO SPOILERS!)
I'm dual classing imoen as thief/Mage. I switched to Mage after level 6 of thief. On level 3 of Mage she's getting 0 hit points when I level her. She has 16 constitution so that should be at least +2 hit points. Is there an issue or is this correct? Been many years since I played AD&D.

    After you dual class, you don't gain any HP until your new class is at a higher level than your old class. So starting with mage level 7 you'll start gaining HP again.

    Thanks. The docs weren't as clear. Just said you retain your previous hit points.
