What are some easy ways to get XP?

Just dualed into a druid, and I realised that I suck. Is there an easy way to get a respectable amount of XP? I have already dont the basalisk area, using korax to tank. But that is the only way I know of.

There's 3 greater basilisks (12k) and 1 lesser (1.2k) on top of Durlag's Tower which can be accessed easily. I did them with a protection from petrification scroll that I bought from High Hedge iirc. Do this solo!

Shoal the Nereid is an easy source of XP. She's located on map west of high hedge and is in the north of it. Have someone else talk to her (as they will die). Smack her once or twice until she talks to you, tell her you will help her and she'll raise your friend. Fight the Ogre Mage (with a party - ranged weapons are good to disrupt the spells). Grab his helm - it's awesome.

Don't talk to Shoal again. Instead, kick everyone from party and attack her - she's defenseless and worth 5k xp. Alternatively, you can talk to her for the quest XP (750) and try to kill her before she disappears but that might not be possible depending on your configuration.

The rest of the Sirens on Shoals map and the one directly south are great XP if you can figure out a strategy for them. Sending Minsc in solo while raged is an easy approach. With this approach you could get half of the XP for your main character. Then, take the arrows of biting and kill the golems in the treasure cave with them.

i believe they got rid of the flesh golem random generator in flesh golem cave, but in durlags tower you can fight greater dopplegangers for 4000 xp each, every time you get interrupted from sleeping and they are relatively easy to fight since they are one at a time, and for a level 7 party pretty easy

My experience was that you could get 1 random encounter of flesh golems and sirens each but after that nothing. Flesh golem in the cave obviously and siren near the sirens.

You said in the other thread that you dualed at 7th, right? Assuming the rest of your party is at least somewhat competent, you should be able to handle Shandalar's quest in Ulgoth's Beard. Just bring Gorion's belt of cold immunity and some Dispel Magic spells/scrolls.

That said, you're probably not gonna get your fighter levels back without running Durlag's Tower. The good news is that it'll level you really, really fast (I think there's almost as much XP in there as in the rest of the game combined). The bad news is that it's also probably hardest thing in the vanilla game, especially if you're not prepared.

Well, actually I am soloing Berserk/druid. I killed the basilisks with mirrored eye potions, and then I had 3 level 3 spell slots, so I could kill other stuff with call lightning.

Ah, you're soloing. Then changes things pretty significantly, then. No party to rely on, but you only have to kill like 10 things to get back into the game. Sounds like you solved your problem?

I did exactly what you're doing and I'd suggest to start over. Save the basilisks for when you dual and first do all of the sirens with rage, girdle of piercing and ankheg plate. Kill the flesh golems with the arrows of biting that you get (especially the 2 in high hedge which are only hostile before you talk to the merchant).

I believe I killed drizzt too via taking 5 characters, surrounding him and kicking them from party. Total exploit but I wanted the gear and XP. Alternatively, wait until berserker 5 and recruit Montaron and Xzar temporarily as Monty will have 85 pick pockets and have him liberate frostbrand from Drizzt that way.

It's possible I did the flesh golems with frostbrand rather than arrows of biting but I don't remember, either strategy can work.

Once you have frostbrand I'd go to Durlags Tower and kill the Basilisks on top of the tower. The battlehorrors at the entrance to durlags will need you to be roughly level 5 berserker with nice gear. Then after you kill the basilisks (via mirrored eyes or prot from pet scroll) you can pop the chimney and get the +2 scimitar - probably just in time to dual class.

I ended up going 6/10 rather than 7/9. 6/10 loses half an attack but gains a fifth level spell slot, +5% DR with Shield of Faith, +1 CL with dispel magic, +3 HP, maintains 14 THAC0 and you get your fighter levels back a whole lot sooner.

Have your mages memorize spells. Easy way to get EXP if they are smart enough.

I never killed the flesh golems of thalantyr. Does thalantyr go hostile after this or is there no repercussion?
  • FubbyFubby Member Posts: 189
Yeah he turns hostile, so I dont do it

Only good for BG2. Otherwise it takes so long and given the reduced amounts provided in BGEE its not worth it.

As long as you kill them before you talk to him the first time he won't go hostile. After you talk to him the golems go neutral and if attacked he'll go hostile too but while they're red circle they're fair game.
