What do you do in Baldur's Gate / How do you play?

First of all, dont get me wrong. I love Baldur's Gate, these are my favourite games ever but anyway here's the deal; I always felt like this game was kinda too short. Of course there are a lot of sidequests but I usually beat the game in less than 15 hours It feels like there aren't much items / weapons / stuff and the level cap just makes things... kind of dull if I may say?

I usually don't feel like starting a new game because all the things feel like the same (This never occurred in BG2 for some reason) I've tried some different classes but still.

Baldur's Gate 2 on the other hand is full of exciting sidequests, items, NPC's and the battles are just pure fun and tactics. It's much more massive and more epic. Of course you have to do the same quests over and over again when starting a new game but it just feels like there's always something new if you know what I mean.

Maybe all I need is a little advice on what to do in the first game and how to expand my gameplay?
Sorry for my english, it might be a little rusty.

Cheers all! :-)

I'm with you. Lets just say after my first playthrough, where I simply did every single quest in order to get the best rewards without worrying about alignment, I began to roleplay my characters more seriously. E.g. turned off heal when rested, mostly stayed in Inns to spend the night and have a few drinks, ignored metagaming as much as possible and have my char act as if I didnt know where to get the best items etc. I believe especially with the 3 new NPCs you got some interesting alternatives to the old ones.

Then of course there are mods that give you the chance to do unfinished business or give you new NPCs - which I dont like to use however:)

I agree, there's a limit to how much BG1 has to offer: the level cap makes being a completionist irrelevant (since you can hit 160,000 XP before even reaching the big city) and it stops practically every class from reaching their full potential; there's very little interaction between various party members; and even the content added by Beamdog is limited: of the three new NPCs, only Rasaad's quest actually has some substance to it; Dorn's is summed up in two battles, both in pre-existing locations, while Neera's is a small new area followed by a very difficult encounter.

Sadly, these issues are inherent to the contractual restrictions imposed upon Beamdog by various parties - I'd recommend waiting for the modding community to catch up, since that's the only way any substantial changes/additions to existing content can happen.
