as for Wolverine, I'd probably make him a Stalker or Barbarian with around 20-21 Constitution (slow regeneration) and give him the ring of Gaxx (better regeneration). Dual wield short blades or daggers and keep the reputation high to gain Heal Wounds+Remove Poison+DUHM as Bhaalspawn powers.
Professor X is a clear Mage specialised in psionic spells Storm a Druid Cyclops a Sorceror or Invoker specialised in damaging powers (or simply the only spell to cast would be Magic Missile) Nightcrawler a Shadow Dancer Colossus a F/C Rogue a F/M with blunt weapons and all the draining spells she can get (Vampiric Touch, Larolch's Minor Drain...) Beast a Half-Orc Fighter with high Intelligence (not that it helps him in-game) ... and so on.
This is actually an interesting idea of a X-Men Black Pits run... and now do DC!
I've chosen sorcerer as a base class for mutants, well, because it suits best the hidden special powers mythos.
Storm as a druid sounds cool, and make her an Avenger so she can cast lightning bolt, too. But a sorcere will get lightning bolt and ice STORM spell, too!
Aganazar's scorcher spell is very much alike Cyclops's optic blast. Hurts all in his path, does good damage.
My sorc got lvl 6 and.. Monster summoning 1!!! Heey! It could be worse. Could be better, though. So my mutie now can summon help from nearby critters, they will be enthralled to fight for him. Sounds like the continuation of psychic powers with a stretch. Still haven't visited Nashkel mines, and no reload. ^^
I once played around with a custom party in (I believe) IWD2 that was themed according to the Magic the Gathering planeswalkers. All Sorcerors, with themed powers.
For those who know at least something about MTG universe (not that I do a lot) I had : Jace - illusionist+mind tricks Chandra - all and almost only fire-based spells Garruk - summoner Liliana - necromancer Gideon - buffing, protecting and direct damage
...coming to think of it, that might be interesting to play in Black Pits.
