Isn't there a Holy Avenger sword in BGEE....where?

I thought there was a Holy Avenger somewhere in Baldur's Gate. If I remember correctly, it was in some house under or near a bed?

There's a Holy Avenger in BGII, but I've never heard of one in any version of BG. It would be a little over powered for this game!

A Holy Avenger would be way, way, WAY too good for BG1. Even in BG2 it's one of the best weapons in the game, all the way to the end.

Nope there is no such or similar occurrence in either BG1, BGee or BG2.

I think @Prethen means that longsword that does extra damage to undead - The Harrower? Not a holy-avenger but it's close.

How is the Harrower even remotely close to a Holy Avenger lol? They have absolutely nothing in common?

There is one paladin sword found in a random corpse in IWD1, it looks like a normal longsword so you can easily miss it, it has +7 powers IIRC. But no such thing for BG1, AFAIK, some crazy mod might have altered that, though.

Bloody hell, can you imaging the Holy Avenger in BG1?

Sarevok: Come! Meet the new god of Mur-erk! *falls over, sword in chest*

@Lord_Tansheron - The Harrower can be argued to be a 'good guy' sword. People get 'good guy' swords mixed up with 'holy avengers'. Harrower has +3 to the undead. Undead are pretty evil. Makes sense.

As there is no Holy Avenger in the game - and the Harrower is a new addition - I do believe this was the only logical conclusion.

Technically, a PnP Undead Hunter paladin is supposed to receive a free Purifier Holy Sword at lvl 6, as a CLASS feature....and in PnP, all holy swords have the same basic abilities when wielded by paladins (50% MR, complete immunity to all spells cast by evil characters with less HD then the paladin, can attempt to dispel magic cast by an evil target simply by pointing the sword towards an enemy within 10 ft and willing it to happen (once per round)).

Plus an extra ability the specific type of holy sword in question has (An Avenger type just deals extra damage vs chaotic evil (supposed to be a flat +10, instead of +5/+6 as in BG2), while a Purifier should deal +10 extra damage vs undead and boosts turning slightly, there's several other kinds as well)

And no....Carsomyr is one of the weaker weapons in the game....no where near the best or most powerful.

Zanath Undead Hunter is an optional kit from an optional book. There is no "technically".
Every single one of the Players Supplement books says clearly on page one that all rules within are optional. So all such rules are subject to use or non-use at a DM's discretion. In this case, Bioware became the DM and interpreted such rules as THEY wanted for their interpretation of AD&D.

And no....Carsomyr is one of the weaker weapons in the game....no where near the best or most powerful.

There's not exactly many 2h to choose from. Which are better? Staff of the Ram? And what else?

There's an inherent limit on the power of dual-wielding due to the availability of +APR offhands; without those, there isn't a huge damage difference between dual-wield and 2h. Trading that damage for 50% MR and dispel on hit is imo a more than equitable trade.

Carsomyr is one of the best two handed weapons in the game. It's the second most effective weapon when fighting against mages/clerics which happen to be the hardest enemies in the game.

    1.) 50% magic resistance
2.) Dispel on hit (Removes stoneskin and everything)
    3.) Massive damage
4.) You can get it the moment you get out of Irenicus dungeon if you want.

It's the most powerful weapon you can get in SoA. When you have ToB installed you can find a few better weapons including upgraded FoA +5.

Carsomyr with Greater Whirlwind is 10 APR two handed weapon that is +6 and gives you 50 magic resistance. If you're adding gaxx after you equipped Carsomyr you get 60% . If you're going after magic resistance it's possible to have 70% magic resistance just by using Carsomyr + Gaxx + amulet.

The reason you dual wield is APR. When you have 10 APR with a two handed sword it doesn't matter anymore.

I must have "mis-remembered" about a Holy Avenger in BG1. Sorry. I think I have some other pretty good weapons for my crew. Some of the best stuff is from Durlag's Tower.

I'm quite sure that in the class description for two-handed swords, it mentions the Holy Avenger. That will be where the confusion is coming from.
