[BG1] Shop Inventories

MatthewMatthew Member Posts: 21
One thing that has bothered me about the BG shop inventories is that some items are available in unlimited quantities, seemingly with no rhyme or reason. Typically it is staves or clubs, but sometimes it is short swords or whatever. So, I would like to see the shop inventories fixed so that everything is available in limited quantities. I have a word document showing which is which, if anyone is interested. Also, the merchant shops in Baldur's Gate share their inventories, which is kind of annoying, as it seems to make no difference which you visit and they are all in the same district.

Whilst I am on about inventories, it would be cool if normal bracers, boots and girdles were widely available, rather than only only available in one random place in a quantity of one, or else a quest item. Some of the helmets that only appear in one or two places would be cool to be for sale elsewhere as well, and that goes double for scimitars, which are currently only available at Candlekeep and at Durlag's Tower (if I remember rightly).

I agree with the scimitars. It's a real pain when your scimitar breaks because of the bad iron situation! Also some more magic scimitars, just +1's, would be nice. The only magic one available at all is the +2 one in Durlag's Tower, meaning it takes a long time for your Druid to have a magic weapon. That's assuming you don't want to kill Drizzt.

I agree that some items need major quantities and others minor. ESPECIALLY (if I might say so myself) - The wands in Sorcerous Sundries and Arrows of detonation. They are INFINITE. 20 arrows of detonation are already enough to clear out Sarevok, Angelo, Tazok and Semaj, let alone have 6 members each with their set of arrows, shooting at the same time. You'd kill the guys in 4 seconds that way I guess!

Also, agreed on helmets and scimitars. One of the things I liked in BG was the variety of helmets. And scimitars themselves are super rare anyway.

@Eviledwin : you can actually pickpocket Drizzt to take his weaker scimitar (and the one usable by all alignments for that reason). It's kind of easy to do, even on level one :P

@Cheesebelly IIRC the reason you can pickpocket Drizzt's +3 scimitar is that it's in his inventory not equipped due to BG1 originally not supporting dual wield. I would imagine that if Overhaul games is being thorough this will become an equipped weapon in BG:EE and no longer be pickpocketable.

You made a record of all shop inventories in Faerun? That is hardcore man.

Well, not all of Faerun, but all the shop inventories in Baldur's Gate, yes. I had more free time to be hardcore in those days. :D

@Corvino : Agreed, although with the possible upgrade to BG2 skills and such, you can easily kill off mr. Drizzt with traps. So hopefully they'll either make him sturdier or simply weaken up the traps :P

@Cheesebelly Poor Drizzt was always a cheese-magnet. In unmodded BG lots of people stood on the opposite side of the lake and shot him, his pathfinding AI couldn't find a way around the water. Mind you, the pickpocketing allowed non-evil parties to get his gear without losing rep.

@Corvino Yeah, but he doesn't like it if you have either of his weapons in BG2. He'll attack you for a thief- and he's perfectly justified in doing so. And there was that KillSword that would one-hit kill anything, but you had to cheat to get it. (I think its CLUA Code was KILLSW01.) And worse, it gibbed whatever it hit. You'd literally see chunks flying off/out of the target.
