BG1 on Windows 8

Hi All,

I've been trying in vain to install BG1 onto my Windows 8 laptop.

I've used the same disc (from the 4 in 1 set) to install on Vista and XP before and it has been fine. I've used compatibility modes and run as admin and all that but to no avail.

SoA and ToB from the same set both work fine (so far).

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how was it overcome (if it was at all!)

Itching to play through the 4 discs again!

Thanks for any help!

(ps. sorry if this is covered elsewhere - I couldn't find it if it is!)

I should have mentioned. The autorun starts up just fine, but as soon as I hit install it just dies of with no error message. Opening the disc and going to setup.exe has the same problem.

Why are you playing BG1 when there's BG1:EE? You should get that immediately! :P

Try to run setup-exe. in windows xp compatibility mode. And with administrator permission enabled. At least this was what worked in win 7, I am not really knowledgable on win 8.

What he said. Or you can have BGT or TuTu, too.

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the replies.

I've tried XP compatibility mode but no luck with or without admin permissions. That's what I used to do on Vista too and if it worked on that surely it should work on anything!

Lol, in the simplest terms, because I already have it. Also, now it won't work I really want to make it start going, although I suppose its already beaten me if I've had to come to the forums...

Maybe I should just go for EE. Surprised nobody else is having this problem though - seen a few where 1 installs fine but ToTSC doesn't. Wish I could at least get that far!

Good shout. Was thinking of using some mods to mix it up this time. Will look into it after work!

    Thanks.

EE costs about as much as a cup of coffee these days. Considering the QoL improvements and new content, that's probably one of the better investments you could make.
