Export/import issues

Apologies if this is the wrong board. First of all, I've just completed BG:EE for the first time, but upon exporting my character, my hit points drop from 120 (ish) to around 90. Can I stop this happening? I've searched around the boards and mostly just found "this will be patched." Also, can I use my character from BG:EE in the vanilla version of BG2 if I copy-paste the correct files?

This seems to be an issue with the BG2 engine that was overlooked by the devs. I recall experiencing this upon importing BG1 characters - if you choose a kit, for example, your HPs are rerolled and set to an average value.

To answer your second question, yes, you can import a BG:EE character into BG2, as long as it doesn't have one of the new kits.

From what I've gotten, importing from BG1 to BG2 has always been messy... I still think your best bet might be to remake the character using Shadowkeeper if you experience problems.

If the hit points are rerolled, have you tried starting the game on easy?
I have no idea if it will work but could be worth shot.

I'm pretty sure my CHARNAME is just a vanilla fighter. I know, I know, how dull, but I like having a tank in the lead so I can focus on making the other characters more interesting.

Shadowkeeper? I'll Google it. I have no problem "rebuilding" my character from scratch to start BGII, but I just want what is already mine. I like my 19 strength and constitution, and 120 hit points, and 161,000 xp. I worked hard for those!

Vanilla classes are more than OK in my book. Kits are fun but they sacrifice a lot of the versatility you can get, specially in the Fighter's case.

I find that a lot of the recruitable characters, while interesting and fun, are limited in some way because of their stats or skills. The only excellent one I can think of is Yoshimo, and... yeah. Hence why I make the Bhaalspawn a bulletproof powerhouse, so you can have more fun with the others.
