ANY chance that a white knight comes along and buys all the rights?

Given the cluster this has become, perhaps a deep-pocked white knight comes forth and buys up the rights..and subsequently funds a BG3 and lets the team finish what they started?

Well..I can dream can't I? :(

Keep fighting Beamdog.

If I were wealthy enough I'd do it. :-)

It won't happen, BG3 especially. At this rate I'd be surprised if we get BG2:EE.

Perhaps not..silly IMO. I think there is money to be made in reviving the franchise/game style..I mean..hell..they're shutting these guys down over the money/rights. Why sit and squat on the IP doing nothing with it? Hate that.

From what I've understood on what has been said...

It's not a matter that the rights are not owned and all that, it's that whoever currently holds them doesn't agree with something...

With Atari's bankruptcy, It's Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast mainly at the moment I think.

And if its Atari..sell if off in bankruptcy to a company that will either use or license out the IP to someone that will..don't just let it die.

That might be the problem. It could be that whatever court is overseeing Atari's properties until they're sold off is telling Beamdog they can't continue until the IP is solidly in someone's hands. As of now, a third of the rights to Baldur's Gate are up in the air.

Things should improve greatly once Atari is completely out of the way. Hopefully, Wizards will actually learn from the Interplay/TSR/Bioware partnership issues and this episode with Atari and not involve a third party in D&D games in the future. I mean, really.

Ye of so little faith. It took 19 years to get bg:ee, so with that in mind, it's moving lightning fast

There will be BG2:EE because people want it to happen.

As suggested in the other topic a Kickstarter raising for the funds of Atari's rights, so we paying it for Overhaul to use, might be the knight in shining armour. An army of players in shining armour!

Overhaul would have ALOT more power in terms of making changes to the game if they owned part of the rights. DevTeam, any chance you'd let us do this? Please?

Some people will want more data before initiating something like that.

    1) Bg:ee: it was a success? every employee got paid? all the cost has been cover? on a scale of 20, the profits where there? how many copy has been sold? how many member on the baldursgate forum?
    2) Bg2:ee: considering the above information, Overhaul/beamdog still have decent/good/great expectation for this game (money wise)?
    3) Bg3: considering the above information, Overhaul/beamdog still have decent/good/great expectation for this game (money wise)?
    4) Iwd:ee/Iwd2:e/Planescape torment:ee/ToEE:ee: Is there still a little tiny chance to see one day these game in the library of Overhaul/beamdog?

Nothing happens quickly in the business world; doubly so where contract law is involved. It's only been a couple of days since this legal snafu was revealed, and I'd bet it'll be weeks before they start revealing more details, let alone potential solutions.

And I'm not trying to be a downer; this is a great community with a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm, and nothing should change that. However, we're pretty much helpless spectators in this little debacle, so that energy should be focused less on demanding answers from the devs and more on supporting the modding community, who will keep this game alive even in the worst case.
