Thieves Guild

Hey guys and gals!
I am playing an evil party on BGEE (my main being a Blackguard) and my only potential thief character is my fighter/thief Shar Teel. I was just granted the password for the Thieves guild and after exploring it a little I am wondering a few things;
1: I know that at least one quest seems to indicate I need to bring myself and myself alone to a quest start place. Considering that I'm a Blackguard, is the quest even possible to complete? Can I take Shar Teel instead? Will her acquired exp affect the rest of the party?
2: I *just* entered the city of Baldur's Gate for the first time. Is this a quest line I can sit on and just explore the rest of the city or is it a sort of "starter" bg questline that is best done first? (easier than the other quests in the city)
3: Any general (as spoiler free as reasonably possible IF possible) tips on how to approach the whole thieves guild situation? Does it reap any really useful rewards, etc.?
Thanks for any and all feedback!

You can sit on the main quest as long as you like. Explore away!
But remember, while your characters may not need to eat, you do! (its a big place full of great things and dangers so it might take some time to explore all of it without a guide). Also saving frequently is a good idea.
In terms of the thieves. Do all the quests you can and make friends. Talk around the guild and get to know people. Also there is a merchant there who will accept stolen (from store inventories) goods.
2. Having completed Narlen's quest has bearing on the ultimate resolution of another quest you receive inside the guild, but not on anything outside.
3. Do Narlen's quest first, then any other guild quests you may receive. IIRC, the rewards are pretty average.
