Mind Flayer tunnels (spoilers) question

Ok, so I am in the underdark (BG2) in the Mind Flayers caves. I am just outside the Mother Brain's lair but can't open the door. I know that you have to have a Mind flayer controlled to open the door, but I think I killed them all. There is one room to the east that is supposed to continually respawn Mind flayers, but now when I enter there, nothing. Is this a bug? or am I missing something?

I believe that you also can open the door when in 'Slayer' form.

rest so mindflayer will spawn in that room?

I recall becoming the slayer will open the doors that "require an intelligent mind or godly strength" if you slayer change right in front of the door. Don't quote me on this though, I'm only going off of a vague memory.
You may also try detecting illusions with a thief or casting true sight just in case there is an illithid hiding in that room that's supposed to be respawning illithids (happened to me with scsii installed) .
If all else fails, you can always just console your way through with CTRL+J. It wouldn't be cheating if you are permanently stuck in that place and you passed only the one door your stuck at.

For anyone else who is having this problem, Slayer form does indeed open the door. Thanks for everyone who chimed in. Helped a lot. :-)

When this happened to me, I consoled in a new Mindflayer.

When I did it, I only used slayer form for that and walked away with a bunch of mind control circlets. =3

There's a difference between a mind flayer and the *mean slayer*! The muddle-headed door really should be more attentive...

Technically you dont need a charmed mind flayer to open the door. Any mindflayer opens the door if it is closed enough to the doorway. That way, you get to keep all 4 control circlets.

I wonder if Shapechange : Mindflayer works though... Would be a nice detail :p

I tried it once, thinking I'd be mighty smart to use a wish (miracle?) spell to turn myself into an illithid and get the door open. It didn't work.

It bothers me because I play a wizard who believes himself to be above it all, yet he has to resort to using this power. Ah well.

They are supposed to spawn. I had to use them once that way too. Winder why it's not working. I think it was the NE room

I looked into those doors last night and an inconsistency struck me--the doors give the floating text state that an intelligent mind or godly strength only may open the doors, as OYME noted. Typically, the Slayer form may be used to open the doors but the Slayer has a strength of 25 so technically someone wielding Crom Feyr (possibly misspelled--I don't have BG2 installed at work) or a fighter/cleric drinking a potion of storm giant strength then using DUHM would also have a strength of 25 and thus be able to open the doors. Also, how intelligent are mind flayers? Couldn't a mage with an int of 18 use the Tome of Clear Thought then a potion of genius to have an int of 23? That should be intelligent enough, I would think. Anyway...I will probably update the scripts on those doors/trigger areas to account for these scenarios but that is definitely a "back burner" project.

@Mathsorcerer - that assumes that the strength they are talking about is physical. It might be magical or mental. It might even be spiritual.

Not saying you are wrong, merely that there are a number of interpretations and loop holes in that theory.

I know exactly what you mean--the situation is a little vague and open to interpretation but no game, regardless of its complexity or depth, can account for every possible situation.
