unless jester
What is better? Fightercleric or Paladin?
joking
fighter/cleric is really hardcore buffed tank bg1 and bg2
paladins bg1 are kind of weaker fighters no spells(only inquisitor can cast his) black guard is really good maybe stronger than fighters
paladins bg2 are great especially cavalier who works like fighter/cleric with swords
in bg2 both are great so power level doesn't really matter
Fighter/Cleric trumps paladin in both games.
The advantage to being a paladin is the innate immunities they recieve with their various kits such as level drain immunity as well as their single class level progression which lets them level slightly faster than a multi. They also have access to more weapons and the holy avenger.
The disadvantage of the paladin is that their spells come very late and at 1/4th the efficiency and are capped at 3rd or 4th level spells.
paladin even with level 1-4 spells is so damn powerfull that it doesn't really matter that cleric is higher in this tier
how powerfull is cavalier? normal ascension mod tob final solo that much powerfull
-d(a(du/dx))/dx+(d^2(b*(du^2/dx^2)/dx^2))+co*u+c1*(du/dt)+c2*(du^2/dt^2)=f(x,t)
this is tough to type in without an equation editor, (du/dx) denotes the partial derivative of u with respect to x, (du^2/dt^2) denotes the second partial derivative of u with respect to t, etc.
anyways, this is a model equation from my finite element analysis class
When b=0, c2=0, co=0, c1=rho*A, a=kA
this equation represents unsteady heat transfer in a fin
When a=0, b=E*I, co=k, c1=0, c2=rho*A
this equation represents transverse vibrations in a beam
When a=E*A, b=0, c1=0, c2=rho*A, co=0
it represents longitudinal motion(vibration or wave propogation) of a slender rod
My bard characters sing instead of fight. I guess that puts me in the minority. I actually find it interesting to play in the game though. Because the song benefits have a very short range, I have to stay right behind my front line fighters, which necessitates constant positioning of my avatar.
I can't just marquee select everybody in the party and click target to attack when I'm playing a bard (I always take skald.) When an enemy is sighted, I usually separate myself out a bit to the side, so I can get a marquee select that includes everybody in the party except me, order them to attack, and then, when my front line fighters rush forward toward the enemy, I rush in right behind them. I try to position myself close to the front line fighters, but far back enough to keep my song effects on the back line.
Then I can start ordering spells cast if needed for whatever battle. (Some battles I hold the whole party back and let the mages throw AoE's first.)
As soon as I can find and learn the Invisibility spell, I stay invisible for pretty much the rest of the game. I find it kind of funny and satisfying to roleplay a ghostly voice coming out of nowhere, demoralizing and scaring enemies half to death if they don't figure it out. (My party is in on the trick, of course.) It goes kind of like this, in my head:
Me: (invisibly, singing, playing lute) "Kill, kill, kill, kill, the stupid ogre. Bonuses, bonuses, bonuses, bonuses to your hit rolls and damage."
Ogre: "Arrrgh! Where is tinkly music sound and screechy human sing-song coming from? Hurts my head! Make it stop!" (Drops club and puts hands over ears.)
Fighter: "Eat steel, monster!" (splortch)
The Skald is ironic....in BG they're the only bard worth spending time singing rather then fighting...but in PnP the Skald is the only bard who can sing WHILE engaging in melee combat (and are the 2nd strongest melee bard kit after the Gallant).
