Find Traps spell. Does it work?

Hi all.

It's my first time playing Baldur's Gate (Original Version) and I have some doubts regarding the Find Traps spell.

The female thief who accompanies you from the beginning has exploded in a trap with no revive chance and I was confident that Jaehira and my cleric would cover the traps issue with their spells.

But now I'm in Ulcaster and when I have the Find Traps spell activated none of them actually detects any trap.

Upon further testing, it seems that they only detect the traps if I cast the spell right next to the trap.
Is this correct? If it is then why they do that find traps ritual for a while after casting the spell?

P.S.: Please, take care with spoilers!

they can see traps but they can NOT disarm them so thiefs are really helpful for newbies try reloading to previous save when thief was alive or even begin new game with thief

    save often
save NOT ONLY On 1 file so you can go back
like quick save + name save every hour+ daily save

Ulcaster Ruins doesn't actually have that many traps, do you might not be finding any because there aren't any. More importantly - and this applies to thieves too - the trap detection "pulse" has limited range and is only fired once per round (if you are using the spell you should see dozens of "detecting traps" entries in the log); characters moving as fast as they can at normal speed will generally set off traps before they can be detected.

Finding traps in general is sometimes a pain as it has a limited range and the thief checks once per turn (around 10 to 12 seconds)... I have reloaded a few times because the thief didn't find a lightning bolt trap in time because it was just barely out of range, then walked into it, and it's a tight corridor where the bolt can jump like crazy.

    Thanks for your answers.

I'm not bothered by not being able to disarm the traps, I'll find a workaround.

To ilustrate my question I've taken two screenshots:
-on the first one, the cleric has cast the Find Traps spell in a nearby previous location, and after that I have led the group and placed her near the location of a trap. I could let her there trying to find traps until the end of the duration of the spell, but she won't find anything.

-on picture number 2 I've casted the Find Traps spell right next to the trap, and then effectively, the trap location is revealed.

    Is this a normal beheavor?

That sounds like a bug. It should find traps whenever it pulses, not just on the initial cast. It certainly does in BG2, so it may be a BG:EE related issue.

With so many better versions of this game (BGEE...for example..) with more quality content, why would you love him for playing the most bugged version of the game in 800x600? :D
