You know since I played BG 1 Vanilla (never completed) and BG EE (completed) in short succession, I noticed that finding Dynaheir is much easier in Vanilla cos of the cut-scene for the Gnoll Stronghold.
In the Vanilla cut-scene the camera takes you on a little tour of the stronghold, and strongly indicates that the pits are prison cells, so naturally you'd investigate them to look for Dynaheir. It still took me a while to realise you could walk down into the pit, but at least I had a strong inclination that Dynaheir would be found in a pit like that.
In BG EE you get no such clues, so you'd have no reason to investigate the pits in any detail, and could easily miss Dynaheir.
