Does anyone know if Boo is really a miniature giant space hamster, or whether this is just something Minsc thinks?

    There are such things as Giant space hamsters in D&D:

    Whether or not Boo actually is one is deliberately never addressed.

    When you first walk into Baldur's Gate, Elminster addresses Boo and makes some comments if you have Minsc in your party that indicate that Boo is more than he seems. However, it's still not made clear that Elminster isn't simply humoring Minsc.

    Isn't that conversation part of the BG1 NPC mod rather than being vanilla content?

    @Shin, I'm not sure - you may be right. I've played with the NPC Project installed for so many years, I can't keep straight any more what's NPC Project and what's vanilla. Good catch.
