Containers Removed When Importing

I was just curious what the reason (technical or balance) was behind this? I am sure this occurred in BG1 vanilla as well (never played BG1 vanilla before buying EE), so I was just wondering if anyone could fill me in on the purpose of this feature.

It seems kind of strange to me at least.

Containers were a BGII thing I'm pretty sure... that detail aside I always assumed it was to prevent duping being even easier than it allready is. Seeing as no patch ever fixed it I don't think it was a bug or technical issue.

Containers are technically stores without a selling/buying price with a fixed capacity. Alterations to stores get stored in savegames.

Starting a new game, you have obviously nothing stored in a savegame, therefore even if that bag would be imported, there would be nothing in it, as that data was only present in your previous savegames.

You can import containers? I am sorely in need of a potion case for my BG 2 run. I'm all the way in the Underdark and still not found one anywhere. The Bag of Holding is a lifesaver though!

@10thLich almost has it right: The problem is that because of the store mechanic, each container is unique in the game. If you allowed it to be imported there would be 2 in the game: the one in your inventory, and the one where it was originally found. The problem is that these two objects would share the same inventory - neat feature, but not the intended behavior.

Indeed, as I recall when I would import my save game in BG2, the containers would not import there either, so I'm not surprised that it wouldn't work in BGEE, especially with the clarification from @Cerevant.

Thanks very much for the assistance and so quickly as well. There are other little 'nagging' questions like this I have about the games that I'll be posting over time (usually when memory allows me to remember :P). When I was younger I only really played Icewind Dale 2 to death, while my sister was more of a Baldur's Gate 2 kind of girl. As such I'm slowly starting to enjoy the rest of the 'series' (if you can call it that) and discovering the quirks of each one leads me to ask questions like these.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it :)

The potion case that you're looking for @Heindrich1988 is found at the top of Watcher's Keep with Sister Garlena. It was added with TOB, and there's only one IIRC.
