He's not supposed to summon the fragments a second time. Did you install the tactics or SCSII version of this battle?

I've never seen that particular bug. It sounds like some weird scripting error, possibly caused by two mods interfering with each other. I couldn't really say which, though... As @Shin said, it's not supposed to happen twice.

I think I've stuck to Tactics Irenicus. It's a fairly complex fight, I don't know what SCSII would improve on it. He already uses massive scripting, buffs, etc. Maybe you can try and google for known interference between the two versions?
  • 10thLich10thLich Member Posts: 99
Well, if they're both modifying the same scripts and dialogues, it stands to reason that there will be some sort of conflict. Especially if DavidW billed his improved Irenicus as a Tactics-Remix.

If you're comfortable with Near Infinity or DLTCEP you should take/let someone take a look at your versions of:
    cut85a.bcs, cut85b.bcs, cut85c.bcs, helljon.dlg, cutii0.bcs, ar2900.bcs.
Those should be all files of SCSII involved in its Tactics-Remix concerning the spawning etc.

Tactics itself uses a few more, and I don't know how those intersect as I've never used Tactics.

i just want it to be at least this hard it is described as tactics/scsii so i really don't know what is this

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBe8EV_MCgM

from gibberlings forum tactis is harder http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=11900

spoiler of improved irenicus in hell scsii/tactics description
    Improved Irenicus in Hell
Irenicus originally splits into five copies:

    * The Dragon of Pride, basically a clone of the Shadow Dragon
    * The Orb of Fear, a beholder with some initial defensive buffs (Blade Barrier, Spell Turning, Fire Shields, Spell Immunity: Abjuration, and Protection from Magic Weapons) and with its central (antimagic) eye replaced by a ray that reduces Constitution. (The original one instead used randomly selected eyestalk powers from a list including basically every beholder-kin power in the game.)
    * The Wraith of Wrath, a magic-immune warrior whose blows drain 2 points of strength per hit
    * The Sword of Greed, an ultrapowerful, regenerating version of Mordenkainen's Sword whose blows drain 4 levels per hit and boost the Sword itself
    * Selfish Jon (not a name used in-game), a version of Irenicus who is a 25th level wizard with immunity to damaging magic and greatly improved casting time, and a new spell - "shatter magic" which is basically an ultrapowerful dispel. (The original version had permanent Improved Alacrity, but chose spells randomly from a list instead of getting a proper spell book.)

After that, you get an autosave, and (unless you set "DMWWIINoRest" to 1 at the console) everyone gets resurrected and healed. Then you get either the original Tactics 2nd and 3rd round (see that mod for details) or the SCSII standard Irenicus battle. Note that the Dragon, the Orb, and Selfish Jon only get SCSII scripting if you've installed the appropriate AI components (otherwise the original version is used).

In the original version, each of the fragments steals an item from you (the Dragon takes the Amulet of Power, the Orb takes the Shield of Balduran, the Wraith takes Crom Faeyr, the Sword takes Weimer's "Acid Kensai" sword, and Selfish Jon takes the Cloak of Mirroring). I find this a bit unrealistic so it's disabled by default; you can re-enable it by setting "DMWWIIStealStuff" to 1 at the console.

Also in the original version, on Insane difficulty the fragments all spawn allies - wraiths for the Wraith, beholders for the Orb, wyverns for the Dragon, Mordenkainen's Swords for the Sword, and liches for Selfish Jon. I tie this to a variable rather than the difficulty slider: it's off by default, but setting DMWWIISpawn to 2 enables all spawning and setting it to 1 enables all spawning except for liches.

I haven't tried the SCSII version, as I've always been using the Tactics one and found it to be quite challenging. If you don't use cheese (such as spike traps on the spawn points), it's a fairly difficult fight; I would definitely rank it in the top5, especially given how you don't have all the ToB gear at that point (no FoA+5 for example).

Your problem is almost guaranteed the double install of pure tactics Irenicus in hell and then tactics/SCSII hybrid; you should uninstall one of them. Tactics is harder, the hybrid version is more lenient (or less cheap/unfair, depending on how you view it), and tactics has one more phase not there in the hybrid version.

I'd agree.. think the tactics version has cheese countermeasures even by spawning some shades first to set off traps. Still, for me there are also differences between "interesting difficult", "tedious difficult" and "long-series-of-trial-and-error-difficult" that are worth thinking about. Tactics is a good choice for someone who approaches combat like a logical problem and wants to use every possible way inside the game engine to beat it.

it looks like you have a fair amount of knowledge. Is there something you don't know? Also do you play with BWS and content mods(not Ai mods like scsii/tactics) that expand the BG world?

Thanks, there is a lot I don't know, often made more evident the more I learn or try to do. In my personal playthroughs I like a certain level of consistency and RP, so I usually avoid large-scale mods that change the game too much (either in difficulty or in spirit). Small expansions or side quests are fine, but big ones like TDD, SoS, CtB etc I have only tried briefly.

    @zur312

I hope you get it working. I've tried Sword Coast Strategems and it is extremely hard. Somehow I triggered the Cleric assassins the same time I was breaking into the Bandit Camp. The call for help feature had me fighting all the enemies at the same time, and they had no qualms about pre-buffing with shields, draw upon holy might, and more.

I had saved over my main file, with the Clerics incoming, before I attacked, and somehow the call for help got the attention of everyone on the map! It was a bad day. Not even a fireball wand spam with the necklace of missiles and my pre-buffs could stop the onslaught. But I have a lot of respect that you enjoy that kind of difficulty.

actually i think it is not that difficult when you have good party with good spells

bg1 is harder because of lower levels

I think I checked the box that allows enemy mages to cast ToB spells. That was a bad idea. Haha.

I haven't beaten BG:2, so I want it to be vanilla as much as possible, for the first time through. Have you tried solo runs as a source of increased difficulty? I was thinking of trying it soon.

If you're interested in more mods/install orders and you still want to do it manually, I'd recommend the
BWP pdf and the BWP fixpack

Moreover, how difficult were those spellcasting demi-liches for you?

There's a mod out there which offers the option to fight four of them if it's installed before SCSII.
