Suppress whole categories

I seem to recall @mInevese talking about a way of suppressing whole categories so that posts from them won't appear in the "Discussions" page. I'd like to do that, specifically for posts in languages I don't speak :) but I can't seem to find how to do it. Anyone cares to point me in the right direction? TIA.
