BG2:EE New Default High Resolution View - Yay or Nay?

Looking at the screenshots of BG2:EE they've given us, it looks like high resolution 1080p. Honestly I really dislike it and I've already heard of a lot of people who also said they disliked it. I'm assuming it might be the new default view because it was like that for all the screenshots.

With that being said, would you want that high resolution view as default OR would you like an option to choose in the menu / new game start with the regular widescreen view as the default?

    I don't care about default zoom. Zoom in/out feature is still present, so I'll adjust it to my liking anyway.

    @Kaeloree
    I wonder why is that. I don't think it was good idea to present an RPG game in a way it looked like an RTS.

    @ghostowl They're not zoomed out any further than usual, the screenshots are just taken at high-resolution. :)

    Thanks, I edited my post.

    Every time you move to a new area, you'd have to readjust it. The game doesn't keep your zoom setting, it reverts back to a default every time you go to a new map (at least in BGEE).

    But if those screenshots are just really hi-res, then it's not really an issue.

    We must have played different versions of BG:EE then. The game actually keeps my zoom setting.

    @Awong124 That issue was fixed a couple of patches ago, I believe.

    Oh is it? Ok, I'll have to try it when I get the chance. I generally find the normal zoom setting to be ok, but I would prefer it just a little closer. But when I found that I had to readjust it in every new map I just didn't bother.

    This thread is pointless without pics :/

    @Kaeloree said what I was going to say (on both counts). We wanted to show off some of the new areas, and some of the remastering of old areas as well. In the game itself the default zoom level will be the same as it is in BGEE.

    So who can recognise where all those screenshots come from?

    I have:

    1: Temple of Lathander in Amn
    2: Temple of Talos in Amn
    3: Top of Watchers Keep
    4: Machine of Lum the Mad in Watchers Keep
    5: Demogorgon room in Watchers Keep
    6: Underdark (approaching the Svirfneblin town)
    7: Underdark (mind flayer area)
    8: Planar Sphere (the hot room)
    9: Umar Hills (the dryad area)
    10: ???
    11: ???
    12: ToB area where you meet the witch (who brought up the Yaga-Shura)
    13: Balthazar's room
    14: ???
    15: Dark Elf City in the Underdark
    16: Planar Prison (where you rescue Haer'Dalis
    17: Spellhold
    18: ??? Reminds me of an area in BG1 where there are a bunch of trolls (or is it spiders)
    19: Sahaugin City
    20: Saradush

    @Karnor00 You are right about 18. Its the troll mound in the "druid grove" map. Only its in BG2. Ohh and 14 is Abazigal's lair from ToB.

    I think they just wanted neat looking screenshots, and whole area shots look mostly better. At least more contentful.

    Lots of people use laptops with sub 1080p resolutions, so scaling back will have to be an option to reach a larger audience.

    In all honesty, if they gave us the option to zoom out even further I probably would.

    @Dee
    @Kaeloree

    By the way, can you please add all the toggle options (widescreen / normal dezoomed view, ...) to the option menu in the game ?

    Also, can you please add all the important options from Baldur.ini to the option menu ?

    Yes I mean the pathnodes, IA updates / sec, Console toggle, ..., and all those infamous options that should be directly available in an option menu in 2013.

    It's a shame, on an enhanced edition, that we still have to open Baldur.ini to make our own changes.

    Thanks very much.

    Is it even possible to play BG:EE using a higher res. then 1024x768 or is it exclusive to BG2:EE?(My windows res is 1920x1080, but BG:EE doesn't adjust ingame)
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
    My BG:EE automatically runs at 1920 x 1200 as it should. Are you sure yours doesn't scale properly?
  • karl_maulderkarl_maulder Member Posts: 133
    @FinneousPJ i'm pretty confident i doesn't as playing in windowmode(1024x768) is definitely way more zoomed out compared to playing in fullscreenmode. The sprites should be tiny(or small) when playing in high res?
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
    @karl_maulder here's what my game looks like.

  • karl_maulderkarl_maulder Member Posts: 133
    @FinneousPJ same as mine. Still, i though HD res. would be more zoomed out, a little more akin to vanilla BG using the unsupported res.
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
    @karl_maulder Yeah, not necessarily.

    I actually play BGEE in windowed mode, because when it gets maximized on my 22" monitor to resolution about 1920x1050, zoomed out - it just looks awful. Still better than BG1/BGTutu though. So I am looking forward to HD BG2EE.

    Those screenshots look very nice. Is this coming for BGEE in some patch or is it BG2EE exclusive?
    Because those might make BG2EE worth getting if they are exclusive :)

    The brown GUI skin is exclusive to BG2EE, yes.

    We're backporting a lot of the enhancements to BGEE (the more efficient bottom bar of the UI, for example), but as for the skin itself, that's a BG2EE feature.

    I was just confused about based on speculating on the pictures
