Companion option for Xzar in BG2 Enhanced...

Spoilers:
I would really like to see Xzar as a possible companion in BG2. It devestated me when I first met him and assumed he could join me if I helped him. Instead I helped to actually KILL him with his quest, when all I really wanted was the exact opposite, which IMO is wrong (BG always have multiple options). And it bothers me that, thats the only option. I thought it was pretty stupid that I as a level 30 mage (for example) couldnt transform the "animal" before I brought him to Xzar, or at least figure out that the animal indeed wasnt Montaron and warn him... And WHERE is Montaron anyway (cant remember if we got to know that)?
Of course Montaron sucks IMO in BG1, I always killed him, so that Xzar wouldnt leave with him, if disbanded ^^
Xzar on the other hand always WAS the best addition to a mage companion, purely because he can learn best spells (and most). His voice and loony sentences NEVER get tiresome. Just THE most comical companion ive ever seen in any game really.

Anyone else who would like to see an option to actually get Xzar to join you instead of leading him to his permanent death?

I don't think this is allowed. Beamdog is limited by a rather strict contract, and I believe they are not able to drastically existing content, so they are focusing on adding new NPCs and areas. So, as much as I would like to see xzar and especially xan as joinable companions in bg2ee, I don't think this is possible. I, however, am just repeating what I have seen on this forum, and really don't know too much. I think you will understand if you browse around here a little, though.

They need to make Tiax (and Noober) a joinable NPC.

Imagine a party with Jan, Tiax, Noober, and Xzar. It would be like a lunatic circus.

If you're sadistic, put Anomen in the party with them and watch him get hounded with nonsense comments and him expressing discontent every 5 minutes.

You can find Monty's corpse in a chest back in the Harper HQ
. Ignominous but fitting for a thief

I guess that makes sense, but thats a shame really. One would hope that as long as its not a drastic change they could do this (which honestly I dont think it is). But as you said, maybe it is.

Ah, yea thats right ^^. Which also seems really weird you cant warn Xzar in advance.

I remember a mod long ago that solved that issue, giving you the option to rout the Harpers together with Xzar. Can't remember which one it was, though...

I am happy with what they did for Xzar in BG2. I wouldn't want to see it change. Not that I wouldn't appreciate having him around, but it gave closure. And considering that most people go with Edwin anyway, it feels right that they took a stance and actually ended the story of a character from the original game. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. :P

If you're a level 30 mage, what the hell do you need Xzar for?

To have him dualed like Imoen - just as mage/cleric, an evil counterpart to Aerie. He'd gain levels as cleric and be allround awesome as usual. I take him along and dual him even if my charname is cleric and I have Edwin.

IIRC Quest pack mod allows a different workaround for that quest, you can double cross Harpers.
And with Ascension and Turnabout mod installed, you can summon Xzar to your aid in the very last battle. If you agree to his terms, that is. He is delightfully evil and insane as usual. ^^

I find it pretty surprising that it wasn't modded somewhere in the last 10 years. I mean, the enfry point is there, the soundkit, portrait, personality and stats are predetermined, add 10 banters and you're done. Should be doable by anyone with a bit of experience.

The presence of Jaheira might complicate things though.
