Question about the Baldur's Gate theme

I swear I just heard the Baldur's Gate theme (that plays over the main menu in BG1) in the bar where I work. The bar's in an independent cinema, and we usually just play either film scores or populist guff like Michael Buble over the sound system. I just asked the projectionist (who's in charge of putting the music on) and he's never even heard of BG. It sounded almost exactly the same as the BG theme except it didn't have that 'stabby' crescendo at the end (I'm crap with musical lingo, but you know - the DUM DUM DA DA DUM! at the end of the track).

So my question is this: are there any filk soundtracks that sound almost exactly like the BG theme? Was it inspired by any in particular, or has someone ripped it off for a film? Or has part of the BG soundtrack somehow weedled its way into my work's playlist?

I'm sure I can't be making this up, the theme is quite distinctive, after all.
