Scaling options

Hi,
I haven´t played BG:EE much of, yet. Now that BG2:EE is coming I think it is the right time. However there is this issue I have with it. I´m not fan of the scaling. Scaling make it look less sharper and the graphics loose some of it´s details.
I also believe BG was never meant to be played in resolutions such as 1950x1080. Even original game played at nearly half of the standard monitor resolution back then, which was still 15´. So it is not playable/enjoyable for me in such a high resolutions. With widescreen mod I played the game on 1024 x 640 on my 1680 x 1050 display.
This would not be problem as EE has zoom feature, however with scaling turned on, it makes the image looks a bit blurry. I was searching for solution and found the way to turn off scaling in Baldur.ini. However this also scales the entire UI, which I don ´t like. I would really appreciate if it is made an option - to turn off the scaling only in the game screen or even in the UI. I doubt that anybody really like the UI scaling turned off.
I believe a big problem of many games in general, not only BG:EE is the lack of customization.

- reduce overall detail
- add a big*huge performance hit
- costs a lot to develop properly
- still need lots of post processing like contours (outlining)
..all that so it scales.
If they were on such project, I would rather advise them to "just repaint everything x20 the size", they still have better result with less overall cost.
As far as I know BG:EE already uses some 2D filtering method to mitigate the side effects of scaling (zoom).
