Few new items to even out less represented categories.

Several 'item categories' are well represented in BG2, and some could use a bit of extension I guess, just for the sake of choice and variety.

I think an RPG with BG's scale could very well offer something for each character, even if the player choices are less than ordinary.

I would like to see:

* 1 new Bastardsword of decent quality +2/+3 that we can get before Chapter III.
* 1 new Katana as above ^.
* 1 new Shortsword that is "Assassin themed" with sneak attack bonuses before CH3.
* 2 Wakizashis with interesting behavior/stats of decent quality +2/+3 (preferably pre CH4)
* 2 Ninja-Tos specced similarly as above^.
* 1 new Flail that is somewhere comparable to ~of Ages before CH4.

* Some stat equipment other than 'Strength' boosters.
* Belts of 'Vitality' setting CON to 16 for those squishy kind.
* +1 Stat rings (all welcome).
* A warrior's 'Amulet of Power' that they can benefit from.
* 1-1 Gloves/Bracers boosting Monks before CH3

They would be preferably obtained through exploration/questing/stealthy play. :)
vs shopping at the markets.

Oh, and feel free to add your equipment "wishlist" to this thread.

    I agree that bastard swords and katanas are relatively underrepresented.

    However, shortswords have very easy to-obtain +3 & +4 varieties in chapter 2 as well as +1/+2 varieties with additional effects.

    Wakizashi & Ninja-to are lumped in with Scimitars to a large extent. Belm and Rashad's talon are both +2 and available early. A further +3 example pre-Underdark or Watcher's Keep would be nice, but only really needs to be wakizashi or scimitar or ninja-to, not one of each.

    There's also already a belt that sets Con to 18 for 8 hours per day, found during the unseeing eye quest.

    The entire BG2 itemization structure could use a comprehensive overhaul. Unfortunately, it's not likely to happen, at least not to that extent...

    Bastard swords are probably the worst off, though, with basically nothing worth using until Foebane in ToB. Every other class of swords is just straight up better :(

    I dont think that is correct, as for the short swords. Item name/location if you care to provide..

    For the sake of variety and well, role playing, (even if they dont each have slots on the proficiency tab.) I think they could really supplement some oriental style blades that are lacking.

    I know the addon NPC traders have some 'loot' as well, not sure which items tho, so I didnt count for them.

    PS: I drafted up some stuff, you tell me if they are any good.

    *** Bastard Sword 'Prosperity' +2 ***

    THAC0 + 2
    2d5+2 //extra damage is intended for some novelty

    regenerating 1 hp/round,
    +4 save vs. death

    ***

    *** Shortsword of 'Mortal Binding' +2 ***

    + -1 CON drain on hit for 3 rounds (18sec),
    + Slow on a nat20 for 3 rounds

    ***

    Short Sword of Backstabbing+3 (from Mae'var quest)
    Short Sword of Mask+4 (buy at Watcher's Keep)

    Both are available in Chapter 2.

    Somehow I alway thought Watchers Keep is in ToB chapters.. But you are correct it is accessible. Thanks for the info.

    there is a katana called, celestial fury and you can get it in chapter 2, there is a belt that increases your con to 18, and you can also get it in chapter 2 ( duration is only 8 hours, but good enough) the bonus merchants sell a special ninto-jo and wakizashi and they are either +2/+3 and that can be done in chapter 2 as well, and there is a Morningstar ( which also counts as flails for weapon prof) that you can get that poisons its victims on successful hits that you can also get in chapter 2 :), so there is quite a bit of good gear for all weapon types before chapter 3, just not bastard swords, which kind of smells, I remember the first fighter I ever made was dual wielding long swords and bastard swords, and for the life of me, couldn't find a better bastard sword than the +3 vs shapeshifters one, so I definitely agree with that one, more magical bastards swords please :)

    You do have a point about lower level short swords. In BG2 there are only a few that charname can use (without UIA) that actually do something other than being a +1 or +2 weapon. Kundane and the Sword of Mask (which isnt of course a +1 or +2 weapon) being probably the best of the short swords you can get early on.

    They are in fact the best short swords in the game, period. Which just goes to show that itemization isn't exactly done well in the game...

    A shameless plug at this point:

    http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/18952/mod-request-bg2-items-revised#latest

    I made a request for a mod dealing with that problem a few months ago, but as I'm completely inept when it comes to coding and such, it's not something I can realize on my own. If you know anyone who'd be interested in such a project, point them to my topic!
