Consistent NPC stats between BG1 and BG2?

TanthalasTanthalas Member Posts: 6,738
From BG1 to BG2 several NPCs have some of their stats tweaked:

BG1 -> BG2

Edwin:
Strength 9 -> 10
Wisdom 9 -> 10

Jaheira:
Dexterity 14 -> 17

Minsc:
Dexterity 15 -> 16
Constitution 15 -> 16

Viconia:
Wisdom 15 -> 18

Its a minor issue for sure, but will Overhaul leave things as is (and we'll assume that they gained those stats during the story) or will you guys modify these values to keep things uniform between both games?

I'd rather have the BG2 stats if you do decide to stick with one of them. >_>;;

    Can we make all NPCs have BG2 viable stats then?

    I don't think the stats evolution are a problem, in fact they are the evolution of the characters after the 1° saga of Baldur's Gate. I always through the status system of AD&D as a so much inert problem, in fact on a p&p game as the character age he gain and lose some status (someone correct me if i'm wrong), so i really like the stats evolution.

    In fact some things ppl call bug i call improvment, as the 2 points in short sword of Haer'Dalis, or the ability to deploy up to 5 points of proficience weapon with anomen (as a dual class fighter/cleric can only get 2 points at a maximum, i know cos i tried to make one) or the deathbringer crazy random attack of sarevok that normally do 100 or 200 dmg in add to the weapon damage (and even today i yet don't know why).

    Maybe it just assumed you gave Viconia the three wisdom books, and minsc the con/dex ones?

    They do kind of push jaheira and minsc on you from the beginning, so it makes sense to make them a little tougher.

    And Viconia and Edwin are the only single class cleric and mage anyhow, so making them stronger compared the the more versatile Anomen, Aerie, and Jan seems reasonable.

    And surprisingly didn't lose any points of wisdom.

    I'm a fan of ability score consistency - although as I understand it, the encounters in BG1 were balanced with the BG1 stats in mind, and likewise for BG2.

    I would like to see some characters (read: Jaheira, Khalid, and Minsc) boosted a bit to be more competitive NPC choices, but I don't know what that would do to the balance of encounters.

    I'm a fan of consistency, too, but I would like to point out that a component of the mod BG2 Tweak pack already does this. If it gets implemented, that's one less component to install. Otherwise, the mod will do for me.

    I don't see any reason to balance the stats. It works right? I think the stats in BG2 make a lot of the old party members USEFUL. In BG1 Viconia is almost not worth having. Unless the stats are uniform BG2 stats then don't change anything. BG1 stats in BG2 would make me cry.
