the future of our planet and what little thing you can do

NWN_babaYagaNWN_babaYaga Member Posts: 732

Take a second out of your plainsight of things and imagine what kind of earth you would want for your children.
That you cant do anything right now to save the planet is clear but at least spread your word that you care!

Planet needs some attention, thought, because we unfortunately are the most destruvtive beings in the history of our planet. We are, or at least most of us are, too selfish to consider other being that are unfortunate enought to share a this rock with us. So, right, humanity probably will be long gone before utter destruction of this planet, but franky I hate trash, who doesn't care what already happened and what will happen to our envoirment and other living creatures that live beside us.

The point is the planet will be here regardless. Man won't.

From what I'm reading of this they are just moving the fuel from one part of the site to another. Considering what has happened in Japan people are certainly within their right to question their competence, and if I were living anywhere near the plant I would certainly be concerned, but this seems like a big stretch to demand that the UN take charge here.

Yeah I imagine the Japanese authorities would take issue with infringements on their national sovereignty, even if it was well-intentioned with regards to handling the Fukushima crisis.

That petition wildly overstates the dangers posed by Fukushima. Even if it held enough nuclear fuel equivalent to 15,000 Hiroshima nukes, it is not at risk at releasing so much fallout since there is (as far as I know) no risk of an explosive meltdown, which would be needed for dispersal of fallout. What they are concerned with is the steady leak of radioactive material into the local groundwater and nearby seawater, which although environmentally damaging, is hardly an apocalyptic disaster.

I am confident that Japan will deal with Fukushima because.

    1) It is in their interest to do so at all costs.
    2) Japan is one of the most technologically advanced societies in the world. I doubt foreign experts could bring much new capabilities to the table.

    A few things,

1.) The Planet doesn't need to be saved from us - We need to be saved from the reactions of our planet's immune system if you catch my meaning. The planet simply reciprocates what it receives, much more effectively I might add.

2.) I am all for a solution. I am all for signing on to an "okay we kind of sort of have an idea of what to do here and a bread-and-butter idea we can further develop" plan. "Fix-it" plans aren't such plans and lead to chaos, more confusion and the problem not actually getting solved or being further botched.

I'd sign on to this, but given that it is going straight to the top rather than being sent to an environmental committee specializing in these types of disasters...I don't trust the two people its being forwarded to see it or put an immediate priority on the disaster, especially since a large part of world leadership seems to be distracted with other world issues at the moment.

Re-direct it to: UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and I'd get behind it.

I just don't want to hand something like this to a lesser evil - I want to hand it off to people I KNOW will take care of it.

Handing anything to the UN is absolutely ludicrous. Do we remember, for instance, UN resolutions regarding Iraq and how they were not enforced? Anyway, this is a game forum, not a political one. I ask that we keep it that way.

Well i think that the situation there is already blowen up but we just dont get it by now. If you trust in any a corporation which bosses sit somewhere else or blackmailed government officials which is the norm now a days then hey.. thats your story;)

I rather believe an independant specialist without a money agenda behind him then any one else;)

And to say that the earth will spin without us is true, but that doesnt mean we have no responsibility. Well like i said, the children that are to come will ask questions why we created that wreck of a paradise for them...

While I agree that the Earth will be perfectly happy to see us go, I also think - as anybody who read this discussion already knows even too well - we have a responsibility towards all the other sentient beings that inhabit the planet together with us.

I don't see any evidence that he's a "specialist" though (Harvey Wasserman, the petition creator). Wikipedia says he's just a journalist, who's been an anti-nuclear activist for 30 years. So while it may not be monetary, he certainly has an agenda.

Well, if it's anything, I'm also against nuclear energy. But the thing is that there just isn't an equally effective substitute yet nowadays. You got solar energy, wind- and water energy, indeed, but none of these three are as efficient as nuclear energy thus far. For example in my country: solar energy is quite useless, because the weather's grey and it's raining 70% of the year. My country is flat, so water energy is useless too. For wind energy, it's best to go to the beach and put win mills there. But would you really want to sunbathe inbetween giant wind mills? I dunno. The energy these sources of alternative energy create just isn't on par with nuclear energy either. I'm for alternative energy sources, but they will have to be developed further first in order to be more practical and efficient.

I still think that forcefully polymorphing all of mankind into oozes, slimes, jellies and puddings is the only realistic way to reach permanent world peace. Seriously, if we all became amorphous creatures, we wouldn't need this whole civilization of doom mumbo jumbo in the first place. Everyooze would become its very own power plant and could use their radiating body energies for various things, such as frying donuts!

    It's utopia, I tell you!

++soilent green. If you're selling, you can send my message.
