Totemic Druid in BG2

I just ran a Totemic Druid through BGEE and I have to say I was pretty surprised at how powerful their summons are. Having summons at level 1 really helped in those early levels with barely any hitpoints. I liked how they continued to get better as I gained levels.

Now I'm wondering if this is the character I'd want to bring into BG2EE. I know druids are sort of lackluster in the spell department so I'm wondering how this guy will hold up in BG2 and TOB.

Will the summons continue to grow or will they eventually get eclipsed by elemental and devas. Also, how do druids in general fare in TOB?

Thanks guys!

I think most people tend to multi-class druids as some of their spells make them great tanks (i.e. iron skins). As for the summons, losing the shapeshifting is almost an improvement, and you can supplement your devas and elementals with the spirit animals. I don't recall how their stats stack up into TOB but extra fodder doesn't hurt in the right places.

They're generally considered a good choice as far as druid kits go. The spirit animals are indeed at their best early on, but even later on in BG2 and to some degree in ToB they can serve as fodder, like you say.

You should have seen the original Totemic druid as i'm sure BGEE nerfed them.

Baldur's Gate Tutu with the Totemic Druid was a breeze, haha...

Yes it was such a wonderful thing to have summons that were immune to normal weapons and stuff.

I liked that they were powerful but didn't quite seem OP. I can only imagine how vicious the y were before the nerf.

How are druids in general in TOB? Will be basically be a summoner who throws an insect plague or two?

Druids have some very powerful summons and some good offensive spells. They are not as powerful as arcane casters, but they can easily hold their own in ToB.

Druids are tricky in BG2. They hit a wall of XP at level 14 that is very tough to climb over, and seem to stop advancing for most of the game. In SOA vanilla they were capped at 14. This is even more annoying for F/D multis.

Ironskins, Summon Fire Elemental and Insect Swarm are great spells though. If you've used Jaheira in TOB you know that Druid HLAs are pretty damn good too.

I like to play single-class druids in BG2 almost like a big pest for my opponent. I'm not going to be that guy that does 140 damage with 10 attacks per round or stops time and totally obliterates the enemy (though I may summon a few creatures who will help in that regard). However I will be the guy that casts entangle, doom, charm person or mammal, invisibility purge, rigid thinking, dispel magic (if possible I will use someone else for this), call woodland creatures, cloak of fear, insect plague, true seeing, harm, dolorous decay, creeping doom, nature's beauty, or storm of vengeance (which while having a long casting time and minimal damage is good for spell disrupting). Basically I like to make my opponents life difficult.
