Suggestion: Color Palletes

First up, just want to say I love the new default color options for Kits, and Classes and companions. (Imoen's new colors look great btw)

The problem is that if you ever swap off those colors, you cant get them back again near as I can tell. Ideally what I'd love is for all those colors to be added to the palette so anyone can use them, even those who aren't starting new games. There's so little customization in the game as it is, so why not make the most of it?

However that might be more of a headache than is feasable, as it probably would require a reworking of that interface. But there are currently two blank spots on that pallette. Why not make those the two new default colors for each character?

That way people could test other colors without fear of losing those shades forever, and would also put an option for people to get those colors on pre-existing games.

Or if that's still too complex, maybe a 'default' button?

CHARNAME's class choice offers different default colors? I don't have the beta patch yet, sadly, or I'd check it out myself.

I think technically you can go into the "Customize" -> "Colors" section of the Character Record screen to find the full palette. From my brief testing of it it looks that way anyways. There isn't a default button there though.

Yup one of the new things on the patch. Every class/kit has its own custom default colors now that aren't on the normal pallette. Kind of like the custom colors on certain of the companions like Imoen and Neera.

@elminster only the default pallette is there. Not the new custom colors they added.

Ah, man, the grey-blue color for the leather is awesome. Will these palettes have any effect on an armored character? Will Blackguards in plate mail have grey-blue metal bits?

Awesome. Now I just need some beta access and I'll be ready to download that mod for my next playthrough. I know you've got lots of emails to go through, Dee, but baby wants it now! :P

Good call on the Shameless plug. I always meant to grab that mod, with the pallette changes thats a better idea than ever.

Using the mod now and I love it. Is there any way to change the base colours of the kits? I want my Cavalier to look like a Blackguard in plate armour

I answered this question in the thread you started, but here it is for anyone who missed it:
In Near Infinity or DLTCEP (DLTCEP will work better for this), open up CLASCOLR.2da and find the column for the kit you want to change; CAVALIER, in this case.

Then just change the index values for Armor, Metal, and Leather. for black, I recommend some variation of 136, 66, and 182 or 183. All of those are values for colors that are (or are close to) black.

You can change the base clothing colors as well. Experiment with different things; you can see the index values for each color just by opening up a CRE file in Near Infinity and selecting the Metal Color line. Then use the scroll-thumb on the bottom section to look through all of the color entries. Find the color that works best for you, and take note of its numeric value.
Note that you can do the same thing with Hair and Skin for races (RACECOLR.2da).
