Solo Ascension Run - Thief

Have you guys done Solo Ascension runs with the thief class (single class, no dual or multi) before?

I tried to do one with an Assassin (on core rules) and I got my butt kicked after my poison wears off / backstab doesn't work situations

And ToB just has a ton of backstab-immune encounters and enemies who can easily see through invisibility...

I've heard Bounty Hunters were able to pull it off if you abuse their traps and plant them where enemies will come out (sounds a bit cheesy)

I mean, after you get HLA, spike trap will make your life easier most of the time, but before you get it, how do you deal with getting there?

I would have thought the extra combat of a swashie would be more useful than the traps or poison of the other kits.

stack scrolls for the whole game<- you are god if you mean vanilla bg

and even tactics/scsii/ascension is doable with scrolls

cavalier did it in very hardcore moded game on normal mode and almost did it on insane (bug/crash)

You don't have to backstab if you can't. Just whack stuff until it keels over. Solo you'll have UAI in no time, and from there it's just a matter of gathering all the stuff you need, and switching it in at the appropriate time. Given the abundance of scrolls for you (as @zur312 mentioned) you are basically half a mage anyway, and that makes many fights fairly trivial.

Save all your high level scrolls and with use any items you'll be able to get some extra rounds for free. Bounty hunter is your best chance.

You're not getting through Ascension with a solo thief.

I imagine a good Thief would do anything to win a battle. Use any item available, any cheap trick and any advantage possible.

That means, start with a back-stab, use a wand, unleash some magic with a scroll, quaff a potion of invisibility and end the encounter with a swift kick into the nuts.

@CutlassJack Agreed! Rogues are not LG paladins bound by a code of honor. Sure they have a code, but it's much like the pirates' code; the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

Curious to see how you do. I have beat Ascension solo with an Assassin, Fighter/Mage and a Sorcerer. Not a plain thief though. Should be doable though!
