It's the hide button... Although you might need a somewhat high stealth skill to be able to hide while in LOS of an enemy.

PROTIP: Move Silently and Hide in Shadows are used in concert to determine success when you're first hiding in shadows (or in plain sight if you're a shadowdancer); For all subsequent checks, only Move Silently is used to maintain it.

How? Probably because it doesn't make much sense. :)

It's after selecting stealth mode, not coming out of it.

Are the HiS and MS skills used on a 50/50 basis when hiding in shadows for the first time or does one or the other weigh more heavily?

Are you absolutely sure about this? This is contrary to the prevailing wisdom, at least that garnered from previous incarnations of the games (BG2, specifically). If it would be possible for you to verify that this is actually how that code works, that would be really neat.

As of the beta you can't do this any more, since chaining backstabs made the class over powered. Now there is a cool down timer when you come out of of the shadows (or after a backstab), so you have to wait before you can hide again. If you have a high amount of Move Silently and Hide in Shadows then you will be able to re-enter stealth, as soon as the cool down is over, by hitting the hide in shadows button. My level 5 shadowdancer currently has Hide in Shadows ~100 and my Move Silently ~90, and can hide almost any time she wants (as long as she is not in direct sunlight).

Would be nice to see hide in shadows and move silently rolled into a single skill. Right now the points you spend on it are effectively halved, which isn't nice.

Hm. I thought that was how it worked, but we just looked at the code and it looks like the game just averages the two scores together every time.

    So...yeah.

Thanks for verifying that. That result is what had been determined by experimentation with BG2, so it is good to have confirmation.
