Launcher IP connectivity check?

Any chance to add an IP connectivity check/timeout to the launcher? I was playing with a Windows tablet on airplane mode and the launcher never failed trying to load news just kept spinning and trying. Not a huge problem as I went and just opened baldur.exe directly but others may not be tech savvy enough to get there if the 'play' button on the launcher never loads.
