Significant performance problems

After installing the beta today, I'm having very significant performance problems. Notably, the game stutters and 'hesitates' frequently (10+ times per minute). Audio stops, game movement stops, and the game becomes unresponsive to input for 1-3 seconds each time.

This issue does not occur with the current non-beta release, and it is wholly inappropriate given my system configuration.

System is i5-2500k @ 5GHz, 16GB RAM, ATI 6950 2GB, Crucial M4 SSD

    When you open up Graphics Options, what does it say about your OpenGL version?

    OpenGL Version 4.2.12172 Compatibility Profile Context 12.100.17.0

    On the plus side, movies are as smooth as glass.

    I'm also experiencing this issue on my laptop. Very different hardware configuration, but still well above the minimum requirements. OpenGL 4.2
