BG2- err 89?

Doing a quick run of bg2 before bg2ee comes out. So I sided with the Shadow Thieves. Cleared out the vampire lair in the grave district, went back and spoke to Aran. When he sends me to Brynnlaw, the game crashes. I get the cut scene of Irenicus doing a test on Imoen, then the Brynnlaw area fails to load and I get either "err 89" or "err 89 file exception."
I'm running BG2 with ToB installed and patch 2.1.2. Any ideas on what to do next?
