Difficulty based weaponry like in Icewind Dale 2?

Have they considered doing item lvl adjustments based on what difficulty you play on, because I loved that in IWD 2. The game was insanely difficulty but you were rewarded with weaponry that could have a chance to insta-kill undead or drain life. Since they are using BG 2's engine, this wouldn't be hard to implement. I like playing on the hardest difficulty, because it reminds me of the difficulty of pen and paper.

I guess many did not play the Heart of Futy modes for IWD 2, which significantly amped up the weapons and led to some truly epic special effects for each weapon. The creatures also did like 300% damage though, so it was in no way a cake walk, actually it was a lot harder than the original game.

A "heart of fury" mode for BG would be awesome -- with much tougher opponents, higher level cap (designed to import your character after completing normal difficulty, and pick up at around level 10-11), and more epic gear. I wonder if that would be doable without breaking the contractual restrictions...

I would love to finish BG2:EE and import my party to candlekeep heart of fury mode.

I could see this being interesting with a BG2 import (like Leaf said), but doing it with just BG1 chars would make BG2 a balancing nightmare.

Heart of Fury mode in IWD2 was... odd. Because it just didn't feel right to whittle down a goblin. In pure gameplay terms, if you were attached to your characters, you could get a lot more game-time through this mode, but personally I always found it a little too weird.

Well, it could be balanced so that BG1 HoF capped you at the same level as normal BG2 -- that way you could either import your BG1 HoF character directly into BG2 HoF, or use your regular character from the end of BG2 (if that makes sense).

Importing from the end of BG2 into BG1 HoF, like @Leaf_Eater suggested, would be interesting too. Either way you'd be ridiculously high level by the end of BG2 HoF, which might be difficult to balance...

I agree with Alderon. This was more of a suitable mode for an IWD game which was mainly about combat. For BG though, it would mostly seem to be immersion-breaking.

BG2 already has a bunch of weapons that kill creature type X. Staff of Air/Fire/Earth destroys the associated elemental, Staff of Striking insta-kills golems, Mace of Disruption destroys undead, Crom Feyr kills trolls, ettins and golems on every hit and the Silver Sword and Ravager each have a chance to insta-kill everything. I don't think the game needs more powerful weaponry on any difficulty.

Heart of Fury mode is difficult to implement, due to the game already going up to lvl30ish, something IWD1/2 never did. Also, IWD is more a combat simulator where Baldur's Gate is way more attached to its storyline and realism. Heart of Baldur mode would be deeply immersion breaking.

'Heart of Fury' was nice but not perfect. Rampaging Heart of Fury with the Bands of the Master, 2 Ring of Greater Regeneration, the Chain of Drakkas' Fury, 2 Battleaxe of Decay +5 as a rogue was memorable. But it's feel really wierd to play without the core rule of D&D.

Uh, I don't know what IWD 2 you played but it easily when to lvl 30 and above. And I disagree about the immersion, as it would make this soloing crap almost impossible, so that you have to depend on your party, when goblins can kill you in one hit. You would have to prepare in advance for many of the battles that seem easy in BG.
