I almost always feel like playing a Paladin. Playing a fantasy game as the knight-in-shining-armor good guy just feels the most right.

@Millardkillmoore Paladins are too rigid and "black and white" for my tastes, I've been warming up to them a bit more lately tho playing more of a dark/tortured hero archetype, it works pretty well and if you mess up too much you become fallen which suits me fine in flavor terms :)

Hehe also once, for laughs, I created a paladin, used shadow keeper to change his appearance to the robed monks of candlekeep except with grey colored robes, and modded in Xan's moonblade, making him look like a jedi knight with a blue light saber, then gave him 999 potions of speed and soloed through the game as fast as I could :P Xan's moonblade is seriously some powerful stuff in the hands of a competent fighter...

I don't like paladin as a class, but somehow I end up playing paladinlike character at least once in almost every game. Rangers are close second in BG. I guess I like playing elite characters.

To be honest, I feel that the Ranger class can offer so much as you begin to level it up. You gain minor priest spells (which can help when fast healing is needed), and you can use any weapon or armor (nothing mage-related). In addition, you gain the great ability of having a racial enemy. This gives bonuses on rolls to hit and such against that creature.

Just pure mage, without specialization. It was the first class that I was able to beat the game - it was very difficult, especially at the beginning, but I feelt great playing as a mage.

My first characters in that game were always half-elf Fighter/Clerics. I made two different ones.

Recently revisited BG1 with Tutu and played as a Berserker. Nothing survived. I don't think I'll ever play a non-warrior CHARNAME ever again.

    Fighter/Thief

    First class weere pure Mage.

But I like to go Cleric/Mage and change the appearance to that of the candlekeep monks. Looks wise and intimidating!

I only played vanilla BG 1 once as a Fighter Mage, didn't even finish the playthrough, I have been playing ever since because I do want the BG2 engine, the Hard Times mod and Sword Coast Stratagems. Plus a lot more mods as icing on the cake.

I always do a thief at least once. Partially for a little metagaming (I have a strong person to pic locks), and partially because I like the idea of me being a dexterous stealthy person (which I'm not in rl). I tend to play Rangers a lot too for the same reason.

Absolutely Cleric. Either single class, multi or dual combinations, I really really always enjoy playing a cleric, simply because of the many ways you can have to take out an entire party of people. Either cast hold person, or be more secretive, sneak into their lines with Sanctuary and check up what the best tactic is going to be, silence the mages, make a frontal attack.

I really really love Clerics in every one of their aspects, even more so in BG2 though :)

Fighter/Thief. Was the first class I completed BG1 with. Good combat, nice backstabbing and opportunity to do the Thieves' Guild questline which I always liked. Multiclasses in general are lots of fun in BG1 because they really don't lose much at all to single classes other than in the very early and very late periods of the game, yet gain a whole extra class (or two!). Favourite single-class would be a Bard.

BGT and Spell Revisions mods would switch my choice to the Druid though...

Mage/Thief. Coolest classes ever made. Even more epic when combined together. Less emphasis on combat, but still pretty versatile and definitely badass! Bonus points with Use Any Item and top-level mage spells, especially when combined with Robe of Vecna and Amulet of Power!

Played also simple Fighter, simple Mage, Cleric/Mage and Fighter/Mage, but never got tired of this class when played with Epic Level Abilities. If I could make a Swashbuckler/Mage or even a Swashbuckler/Sorcerer... oh my! *.*

EDIT: Oh, wait. Did you mean Vanilla BG1? Well, still keep this class. Wouldn't change it for anything! =)

I always wanted to play a dark knight, so it was always fighter/cleric dual, since paladin was always good and lawful.

Now of course, this can change :p

Hopefully these are possible in BG:EE due to code and UI rewriting even if we have to edit them in. For me, I'd love an avenger/assassin!

Going with mage, since they are kinda my go-to, but really my favorite class is whatever changes up the gameplay the most from whatever I last played. That's what makes these games so replayable.

Always Mage. The magical system of AD&D is by far the best I have ever seen (both arcane and divine) and Baldur's Gate actually is the reason I always play some kind of a spellcaster whenever that's available.

The sentence of The Lord of the Rings (first movie) also has its influence:
"A wizard is never late. A wizard always arrives precicely when he means to." :D

I always tended to be the trusty fighter. But *sometimes* I decided to be a Cleric, you know just to mix things up.

Love the idea of a simple fighter- your average adventurer with slightly rusty armour and disproportionately sized weapons. Even if by the end of ToB you do become some uber-warrior able to kill small creatures merely by staring at them

Every time I play a different class, I always think what I could do if I was a Mage instead? What new spells can I use or combos can I discover. So definitely Mage for me

    @Mornmagor You'll like the Blackguard class they're adding for BG:EE then ;)

Multi-class mage because swords and magic together is the best combination.
