Near Infinity - Can't Save Anything

I've been trying to do a few simple edits with Near Infinity: editing Elven Chainmail to get rid of that godawful green, for example, or to make ankheg mail black; but everytime I try to save or export ANYTHING (I've experimented with CRE files as well, same issue), I get an unexplained error.

I've tried rolling back to Java 6 to no avail. I'm on Windows 8; would this have something to do with the ridiculous admin privilege system?

Any help would be appreciated.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say NI lacks the necessary permissions to write to your game location. Make sure you (your user account) has ownership (and all that stuff) of the game directory. You can also try exporting to another location and see if that works. Edit: alternatively, don't install the game to a location jealously guarded by Windows (like C:\Program Files), if you haven't already done so.

If you go to Tools->Show Debug Console, there should be an exception printed there when you fail to export a file. It's probably going to be useless and uninformative (because it's not a NI problem), but if there is something, you might want to post it here, to make sure it's not a NI problem.

I tried to export a file to desktop and it definitely worked, so it seems permissions is the cause.

I already have BG installed to program files, so it's staying there. I'll just copy/paste my edited stuff there.

I've been trying to edit quarter staff+1 so I have no pause between casting per round, permanent aura cleansing you could say. I'm putting down all the correct things with NI and it saves, just the effect in game are nill. It stopped working about two weeks before the patch when I reinstalled BG;EE. Any ideas?

I had the same issue on OSX and it was solved with a change of permissions

Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition.app comes with privileges (permissions) set to read only

by adjusting them to read/write I solved this problem...
