Beamdog Multiplayer so far..

SeveronSeveron Member Posts: 214
I realise that its still in beta but I just cannot seem to get this to work at all. So far all thats happened is, I will join a group..it waits, then BG crashes and I have to task manager to kill it. When I do find a group that actually manages to admit me into the game, I find myself getting kicked out about a minute in.
So far I have only managed to join 1 game with 1 person where we managed to get to Nashkel. Where upon after we rested and the host got the special ability dream, the game crashed.

The problem is I don't know if its my connection which I doubt but there is no feedback.

Is anyone else having any difficulty?

I'm having the exact same issues, actually. Like, it'll take a long time to connect, fail, and then be impossible to close without using task manager.

The one person I was able to join kept getting disconnected from me just 1 or 2 minutes in... I never even gained control of my character.

I think i may have encounter the same kinda problem before the patch, it may have something to do with the in game rest movie.

I would look at turning in game movies off and trying again.
Or Checking the movie files with someone else that doesn't have that problem.

As for your connection problem, that is out of my league.

    UPNP?

Saving game (including auto saves) causes disconnects sometimes.
It's like someone gets dc 2 of 10 saves from my experience.
Also game seldomly crashes when trying to connect to a multiplayer game.

If you're playing through the beamdog client, start up a multiplayer game. Click on "Protocol" and select beamdog.net.

Although I think you're out of luck if you purchased through steam. For now at least.

Seems like a very common problem still. I had hoped connection issues would decrease with the matchmaking getting done but it seems as dodgy as ever.
Funny how it took a year to see the matchmaking happen, yet apparently no work was done on the actual problem of connectivity :s

Gonna try and get into someone's game again tonight, but i'm not getting my hopes up :)

so from looking at how it works, beamdog offer the initial lobby only, after you join a room you are connecting to the host, if you have a bad/slow path/route between eachother then this would be the main problem

I literally just tried the BGEE Multiplayer for the first time ever. I have had some problems that you describe, but not all.

For me, it's so far been impossible to join someone elses game. It just stays stuck at "connecting" .. then after some minutes it tells me it failed. That, OR the game just crashes and I have to taskmanager it away.

When I start up my own game it seems much better. Some guys joined my game with succes (Conrad, Red, nightslasher(?) if you read this!) I give everyone all permissions and I allowed joining halfway through playing too. Once, someone joined when me and Conrad were already on the road. When this new player had his character finished and I clicked "done" (which should have taken us back to the game, now with the new player next to us) the game crashed. I had to taskmanager it away.

Other than that no big problems so far it seems. It *is* kind of difficult to just get set up and play within some minutes so I do see the neccesity of agreeing on a time beforehand with friends or something.

I'm using windows8 and my game no longer crashes since i set baldur.exe to compatibility mode windows7.
I still get dc sometimes but no longer crashes.
Maybe compatibility helps some of you too.

At the moment, multiplayer is pretty much unplayable with random people. Beregost and the larger areas disconnect people over and over again, and I've seen this with many different players. Movies, loading screens and saves also disconnect people.

Any chance this will ever be stable, or is a hosting service required (which we will never probably see)?

It works fine so long as you keep it to 2-3 people max. I have experienced crashes during the resting cutscenes where the bhaalspawn powers are given, however, but only with certain people hosting.
